How many of your friends can name an Elvis song? Yet he is still the King of RnR and even when there have been other huge rock legends, noone is taking the title away from him.
And are you sure that the next generation will be able to name a single song by Gaga?

Yes that's how the term originated and because of this it will always be associated with her. However, celebrity news/media outlets have used the term as an honorific title to describe female musicians other than Madonna since AT LEAST the mid 90's. the term started with Madonna but it doesn't belong to her like "King of Pop" and "The King" belong to MJ and Elvis. just my opinion

|
Just like with Madonna, media and fans tried to pass the King of RnR title to several other musicians like Bill Haley, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley or even Alan Freed (legendary radio host). But it simply never worked for them, because no matter how huge their achievements are, the title was made for Elvis and the GP simply couldnt detach it from him and decide on the successor.
Just like The King of Pop title will never work for Prince, Justin Timberlake, Bieber, Usher, Kanye West, Robbie Williams and other artists who were called that by media and fans.
Madonnas achievements, influence and legacy are the reason why she has earned that title and no matter if someone will be able to repeat that, M is the blueprint, the original Queen of Pop and the one instantly associated with that title.

And that's THAT.

And then, rolling stone took that back and retracted that title after public outrage.
Sorry Thor but thanks to your own source, we can see it's only her fans that call gaga the queen of pop.
I'll repeat myself. Rolling stone, retracted calling lady gaga the queen because of public outrage after they published a story based on a FAN poll.

To say that Madonna won this poll in a landslide would be like saying that she was a kind of popular pop singer in the 1980s. It wouldn't even begin to explain the scope of the situation. She received five times as many votes as Lady Gaga, who landed in second place by a very comfortable margin. The only persistent criticism that Gaga has dealt with in recent years is that she's too much like Madonna. It's a hard shadow to escape. Madonna is a musical icon without peer. Her run of hits over the past 30 years is simply astounding, and when she hits the road, tickets sell like it's a Led Zeppelin reunion tour. Sure, her last few albums didn't match up to the classics. Nobody cares. She's Madonna. Lady Gaga has accomplished more in recent years than any artist of her era, but she's still got a long climb until she reaches Madonna level. It's very likely that no other artist will ever reach it though. Her manager Guy Oseary recently tweeted that she's started recording her 12th studio album, so clearly she has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

Points for trying though.

Public Outrage?? a bunch of madonna fans with too much time on their hands getting pissy and spam voting a poll more like. There's a difference between an unbiased article and a publicly voted poll

Actually if you bothered to read you would notice that Madonna received 5 times as many votes. The article about gaga being queen, had you bothered to read was based on that very same poll. LOL
It's right there in the quote taken directly from the source so I'm not sure what you opened yourself up to looking the way I just made you look.
It was retracted because despite Madonna winning the poll they published a story which was not reflective of the results of the poll based on what they thought, the public would want. - Turns out, the GP don't like liars.

In what way? Honestly. Write ahead. If you post it then clarify and explain. I'll leave you to it.
And I thought monsters and gaga herself didn't want "her ****ing crown" so why are you even fighting for something you don't even want?

I'd be shocked if every single one of them couldn't name 2 or 3 at the very least. It's still cool to enjoy Elvis, Madonna doesn't have that luxury because of her recent antics of trying to get back ontop. Most people my age (Early twenties/Late Teens) could still easily name a handful of Madonna songs as she was still popular when we were young, but I wouldn't hold high hopes for the younger generation being the same.
Having said that, Madonna has the title secured for at least another 20 years, until most of the younger generations forget her and another girl has had decades long career. Her Queen of Pop title is in no way as secure as Elvis or Michaels, she's ruining her legacy a little bit more with every attempt she makes at reclaiming the young audience.
As for Gaga, I don't think she has a chance at this point. Maybe if she does a career 180 and manages to change the publics opinion of her, but I can't see her actually wanting to do that.

What is it about Gaga that makes some of you people so angry?

I think the OP's question was whether Gaga will be able to have a similar longevity / cultural impact / legacy to Madonna's. No need to be pressed. No one downgraded Madonna and no one said Gaga will overtake her. This thread is NOT about Madonna.

yeah I feel like she used to be a legend but for the past 20 years she's been putting out music that is, for the most part, unoriginal, uninspired, critically panned, and out of touch with our generation and/or commercially unsuccessful
Two decades of consistent underperformance does not a Queen of Pop make

I mean her success and impact are undoubtable. She's only debuted 6 years ago and is already put on the same level as Britney and Beyoncé (whom she is now slowly overtaking, but that's just me). I really don't feel like arguing, so I hope that's enough justification for you.

Just like Michael Jackson will always be the King of pop Madonna will always be the Queen.
When she dies that's how she will be remembered. Forever and always written permantly in our history books.
Entertaining the idea of gaga becoming the Queen of pop is only something that's really done by her fans. She wouldn't even be next in line as she's not the top of any aspect of the music business.
|
Rolling Stones, Billboard and many others called her Queen of Pop in the past, so let's not !
And it's not like she CAN'T make a comeback.

Your thoughts =/= reality.
No female pop star comes close to what Madonna has achieved and her tour receipts clearly show that people including our generation are here for her.
How can you predict how the next generation will remember her is beyond me, but dont forget that she already is highly respected and influential. Her legacy already lives on, and she is still around.
You should make your research about Elvis and MJ, they have experienced rough last years and very hard fall from grace, but their legacies were too huge to be affected by it. I wouldnt be surprised if M followed the same scenario, and her fall is not as drastic as for Elvis and MJ (if two mediocre, underperforming albums in her own standard can be considered a fall from grace lol)

Oh please!
Everyone said that about ARTPOP.
And aren't ARTPOP's album sales and singles enough confirmation that the frenzy has been dead for a while now?
