That's kind of a dick move on Nintendo's part. It seems way too early into the next gen to already exclude online play for their last gen. I think they're just being negligent with that move. I mean, I have a 3DS so it doesn't personally affect me, but it's still pretty uncaring of them.
Nintendo has always been about playing with your real life friends. I'm always surprised to hear that people actually opt to play online instead of with real life friends.

mario kart wii had online in real life and online simultaneously. there is no excuse for them doing this. they are going downhill and this is just another step in the process.

If i am not mistake Nintendo didn't host the servers fro Wii and NDS but another company did and that company was bought....
