i dont think its just that - some of my straight guy friends who play sports have mariah Carey in their playlist.
i think its when a glass closeted gay expresses their like for a pop girl ? idk
We gays love ourselves strong women, probably because it doesn't deliver a blow to our egos as it would to our heterosexual counterparts. It isn't just females in pop music, but females in pop culture. Storm, Buffy, Xena, and more are gay icons unrelated to music and they happen to be strong. Maybe it is easier for us to identity with them because not only are they strong, but they're expected to be weak and they're usually oppressed in someway.
With that being said, it likely isn't easy for a straight male to identity with strong females because he probably doesn't need to. Pop music and females pretty much embodies this diva like culture, and I don't believe straight men can relate to that. If they want to be viewed as strong, then relying on a woman doesn't seem to fit into our culture. That doesn't mean straight men can't like their music. I know a lot of straight men who do. I just don't know any who admire these pop stars the way we do, and the ones who did and claimed to be straight eventually came out.
This is all based on my [American] experience and observations, and there are some exceptions. For instance, I know a man who loved Janet Jackson but it was because he was in love her with - sexually.
not in my country. There's no problem with being straight and liking a pop girl.
Except for Gaga, everyone who likes Gaga is gay (i just saying what all the people in my country think so dont report me) (even when we know its true)
Here in the USA, it depends on who the pop star is. If it's someone like Lady Gaga, Madonna, Taylor Swift, etc., people would think you are. If it's someone who's universally liked (Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce, etc.) then no because everyone likes them.
But in my country, even if you say you stan for Rihanna or Katy, no one would even think you're gay.
In America, and some other parts of the world too, there are "girly" things and there are "manly" things. I mean no little boy was going to show up to school on Halloween day as a pink power ranger Some people still think being gay means wanting to be a girl, so if a boy shows signs of liking girly things, then he "must be gay!"
you are gay is u like the big D. If you STAN like a school girl for a music artist the yeah that gives a feeling that u are gay. But straight people like Mimi, Britney, Madonna... they just don't spend their time getting into stan wars and dragging other artists... they either like some artist or don't, end of story
