Is it becoming more about marketing than the actual music?

In the end of 2013 Beyoncé surprisingly released a digital album. Does anyone still remember the actual music? Or does this century of pop music only revolve around marketing scoops? John Lennon's tooth, at a pinch, could still be cloned. No kidding!
So far, so spectacular. Now that six months have passed, does anyone remember the name of Beyoncé's collection of songs? Or could anybody even mechanically recite several songs of that million selling album? No? Too bad. The media blog of the "Guardian" used this case as an opportunity to point out an interesting shift of attention coordinates.
Author David Hepworth, once head of the terrific but long since left behind magazine "The Word" claims that pop culture these days merely focuses on effective sales channels and decreasingly on its contents, some call it art whose message shall be sent out here. In other words, the actual pop stars of the digital era are called YouTube, iTunes or Spotify and Skype. And the likes of Beyoncé only serve as replaceable and well-paid supporting actors. As to whether Hepworth is an analogous old geezer that missed the boat or simply serves the plain truth at hand may now be argued over digitally and analogously.
That's what I've been saying the entire time.
Most people literally forgot about the music..
People were hype as **** cuz she released it out of nowhere but other than DiL the album is completely forgotten.
I love Beyonce and I love this album, even 5 months later, but I have to admit they're not REALLY lying in this article. 'Drunk In Love' and the marketing trick are sadly the only 2 things about the album with real impact to the GP.
EDIT : And the "I woke up like this" line, so 3 things.
