Other races and cultures are still coming to terms with homosexuality though. Don't get me wrong, so are white people, but homosexuality in the African-American community is still incredibly controversial. This was in 1981, and it's a true story from the perspective of a Jewish man. Mark Ruffalo is playing that Jewish man (Larry Kramer).
You can't change the races of people in true stories. And if Larry's experiences of the gay community in 1981 were mostly white, then that is how it will be depicted. If all his friends that died from HIV/AIDS were white, well then they should be depicted as such. They deserve to be remembered. It's not his fault if other races weren't coming out of the closet in 1981...
