I had this discussion with my sister on different scenarios, tell me what you think would happen.


What would happen if an angel came down today and with photographic/video evidence said yes we exist, God does, Heaven and Hell do and you need to listen to the Bible.

Would all atheists/people of a different religion convert?
Would someone try to kill the angel? Or do some kind of rebellion?
Would governments do away with separation of church and state?

What if the message was that homosexuality was misinterpreted, would governments strike down remaining sodomy laws?
If the Westboro Baptist Church was told that they're the losers for spreading hate instead of love, would they apologize and try to make it better or would they do a rebellion like mentioned above and form their own religion with a 'human' leader?

What if the message was yes, people are right to stop homosexuality and abortion, would governments suddenly strip gay rights out of fear of being condemned?
Would all gays have to go into hiding?
Would abortions be outlawed in every country?


On the other end, if there was evidence (without the slightest doubt) that nothing exists after death, would people abandon their faith?
Would governments automatically grant rights politicians denied for religious reasons?

I'm expecting a storm for this, but what ifs always make for an interesting conversation in my opinion I'm a Catholic by the way, just a curious Catholic.

If Gods existence was proven, of course I would believe. The only reason why I don't believe is because there is no evidence to prove such.

Well... First of all religion is just a way to control the masses. There were/are and will be plenty of things that we can't understand, sometimes it scares us or we can't live without an explanation. That's when religion comes in, and that fear/doubt is now filled by lots of rules and "simple" explanations to relieve yourself from that tension. For some people it works, for others don't that's why they try to find other explanations to that concern/fear.

To answer your questions, it's very hard for people to throw away/modify their beliefs to acquire new ones. We are very proud and stubborn to completely change our minds.So it's mostly a Nope

I'm for certain if an angel was to come up to you proving their power and declaring the existence of God you would believe. I'm sure we all would...

As for me personally, I believe in something it's just that the way the church is being handled...well I told my mom not to make me go with her because the priest said things that were too "jagged" for me and the community, I feel like he should read directly from the Bible more and add his own opinions and speeches less.

Reading what you posted, I believe it all depends on the people. We live in a world where anything can seem true, but we have this notion of disbelief in others that photographic evidence, video evidence, etc. can easily be altered that it would be hard to believe something like that actually happened.

But more on what the real question is, we're only human and we still choose to believe what we believe. There was evidence that proved Michael Jackson was innocent of any crimes they pinned on him and people still believed he was guilty; there was video evidence that Princess Diana died in a car accident, yet there are still people who believed it was a staged assassination; we get all these facts thrown into our face, yet there are still people who are bold enough to say "Nope, I don't believe it. This is what I think".

So, I do believe "rebellion" is indeed the path we will choose if we were to find out the hidden truth, mostly because we don't like the idea that we are incorrect. No one likes to lose, and to find that your life is a lie is probably the biggest blow to anyone's psyche that could cause someone to act irrational and by no other reason than their own.

We're almost prone to rebelling against the harshness of the truth. We don't want to believe what is hard for us to handle; we want to believe the best in everything, we want to believe that there is more to life than just… this… that there is something to look forward to after death… that there is a reason to live past our expectations and to the fullest of our abilities… I believe we don't have to fear or scour at what we don't know, just choose to understand that we'll never understand…

Why does the angel have to be a Bible fairy? Why can't it be an Islamic fairy angel, a Hindu fairy angel? Zeus must have angels for him too.

Okay then let's say any type of being that came from above/somewhere that seemed out of reach and said there is an "above"/afterlife/something "more"

That's weird. Then that means that you DON'T want to believe, even if it was true. Is it worth being "hard headed" and consequently burn in hell FOR EVER ? Just a question to think about.
