Cool, I'm sure NY has "wasted" more money on stuff less important.

I'm sorry but nobody is paying for me to get my life to where I want it to be. What makes this kid any different? Foster care? I know a few people who were in that system and can't even afford to go to college so they can subsequently get a good job and a stable home down the line. Tax payers should be helping those people too.

Taxpayers pay for surgeries regarding other birth defect. I.E being helping a blind person see through surgery, helping children with learning disabilities etc. I don't see how this is any different. Although i agree the cost is a bit much.

Hmm... I can see why people would have a problem with this, but... I'm happy for ha. Having educated myself on the struggles trans-men and women go through, I would like if (in a perfect world) the state could help pay for their gender reassignment operations, and cut other pointless things we're paying for.

This though. When I researched this a couple years ago I thought the estimate was somewhere around 30-35k. It may have been cheaper for ha to hop on a plane outside of NYC, which charges more for pretty much all "cosmetic" surgeries.

Um i grew up in foster care. Hated it! Lived in many places and went to 3 high schools. Transitioned from commiunity college to a 4yr school.

Idk why foster kids dont get into college more often. There are benefits and scholarships out there for a case like that.

This is stupid. Just because he would have a hard time raising money on his own, they are FORCED to pay for his sex change?

I'm sure people are going to react as if they are being personally victimized by the fact that tax dollars are paying for this operation. As if they are really going to see a noticeable difference in their bank account b/c of this one instance.
