I dont think the lawyers are allowed to do it themselves they go through another party but most times papers are served in person, either at your home or if that cant get you that way (im sure selena is rarely at home with her schedule) they'll get you while youre out. They mail them in rare cases, again with selena traveling for work so much it's probably easier to just catch her out somewhere.

The reason behind being "served" is to make sure the person gets them in hand, face to face.

If you mail them, the person being served could lie and say they never got them etc. The point is to have legal documentation that you handed them papers face to face and they they indeed got them.

There have been times were lawyers or third parties would act or dress up as realtors or some other profession just to get face to face with the person they are trying to serve because some people run away from it.

In most cases you only get "served" when they try to reach out to you in a professional way such as calling or meeting and you deny or keep running away or not showing up and facing the situation.

That's what I was getting at, yeah. Thanks for the thorough explanation. I would have expected them to contact her via her Agent or Manager, and then either email or mail her the papers since that is normally the more preferred route.

But I can understand why they would then have to track down the person and physically hand them the papers if they wouldn't respond via telephone/email.

I'd feel so uncomfortable if someone handed me court papers while I was out doing whatever

I've served papers before, it was really fun.
