The reason behind being "served" is to make sure the person gets them in hand, face to face.
If you mail them, the person being served could lie and say they never got them etc. The point is to have legal documentation that you handed them papers face to face and they they indeed got them.
There have been times were lawyers or third parties would act or dress up as realtors or some other profession just to get face to face with the person they are trying to serve because some people run away from it.
ala one acting like a fan in the crowd at a Ciara concert.
In most cases you only get "served" when they try to reach out to you in a professional way such as calling or meeting and you deny or keep running away or not showing up and facing the situation.
