She totally back peddled imo. Everything she did during TF/TFM was very fresh and unique. THAT was art. ARTPOP is so try hard that it just feels generic.

Vocally, I think going from The Fame to The Fame Monster, she improved a lot. She sounded incredible on The Fame Monster. And her vocals have just been flawless ever since. Musically / lyrically, I don't know. It seems like she's taking steps backwards in some ways. She'll never be able to top The Fame Monster, and I don't know. She's too much for the fans and tries too hard to be artistic now. It's still good, and I still love her, but I wish she would go back to The Fame and The Fame Monster. Those were her best works by far.

The only thing that has improved is her voice. She's stopped smoking as heavily I think, so her range is redeveloping. She's started over thinking her art and what she wants to convey as an artist. The Fame Monster was her creative and artistic peak, and she's never been able to think in that way since then.
