Some Asians I meet look down upon me because I don't know my "own" language (Vietnamese).

Definitions aren't static. And racism isn't nearly as one-dimensional as you think it is. I don't care how sick you are of being called a racist on Tumblr and how everyone thinks white people are ****.

I get told I'm not stereotypical black all the time. Like WTF is stereotypical black?
Some other stuff.

Omg this is my life story. I haven't ever been pulled over for driving my nice car and I don't play golf BUT I am always told "You're so white", "Stop acting white", "You need to act black"
Like what the hell is acting black. I'm proud of my heritage but I shouldn't be expected by others to follow the negative stereotypes associated with us. It annoys me so much.
I've went to private school since 3rd grade and my high school (which was an all guys school) had about maybe 75-100 black students out of about 1100 students. Thankfully I never experience any outright hatred/racism but people would try to say slick remarks but unfortunately for them, they caught an epic dragging.

This is not a coincidence, that's why it angers me so much when people say "but in POC countries whites face discrimination!!", no they don't. I've lived in Latin America and in my school British and American teachers would get paid 3x more than Latin@ teachers even if they had exactly the same amount of experience and the same level of credentials. It's illegal but no one does anything about it and it's accepted. At the same time in the media all things European and American are exhorted as being superior, if something is from Europe it's automatically assumed to be better than anything local or from Asia, Africa, etc.
And if you can't connect things like that to how POC are treated in Western countries then you're a moron (in Canada, for example, a study was conducted that showed people with non-white names and surnames were 40% less likely to receive a call back from a potential employer than people with typical white names like Lily Smith, John Brown, etc).

I'm so proud of you! You wrote a paragraph without cursing

And I don't care what you think racism is, sis! All of my real life colored friends aren't as backwards thinking as you in this thread and on Tumblr, so you can stay on the internet and keep trying to "fight fire with fire"

You don't have to apologize, but as a human being you have a responsibility to acknowledge the lingering inequality and oppression that BENEFITS you on a daily basis in every facet of your life, and work towards dismantling it by calling out others, educating yourself and not engaging in oppressive behavior, which is everything from not making racist jokes that demean people and reinforce often lethal stereotypes (like black people all being thugs), to making sure that you be as objective as possible when selecting a candidate for a company you work in (should you be in this situation) and actively dismantle notions of racism that could affect your decision.

- be murdered in riots and bombings
- be profiled by the police
- be barred from jobs and education
- be seen as subhuman
- whitewashed in films
- be called ugly due to beauty standards
- be ****ed over repeatedly by the British
- be murdered in extensive numbers during wars for their freedom
- be lynched
- be targetted by hate groups like the KKK
- be barred from immigrating
- be viewed as lowing the moral standards of the US/UK
- be viewed as equals to each other
...but it's inherently worse against one group and not another, even though the Irish have never been in a position of power?

Who said one was worse than the other?
People are just saying Irish discrimination isn't racism.

Yeah I think those terms may be more used by American born Latinos than ones born in Latin America.

Yeah, I was debating whether it was racist or not since a stereotype I seem to get a lot is that Asians always know the language of their ethnicity. I don't let it bother me though.

Black people get "defensive" about this because in some cases a White person will get a dirty look from an Asian cashier at the corner store and then go home to use their iPhone to text their friends about how they were a victim of racism.
Or, in more severe cases, they'll wander into an environment of hostile non-whites and be called anything from "cracker," "Buffy," Becky," or "cheesehead.
No one is saying that White people can't experience racism. Anyone who implies that doesn't have a concrete understanding of racism.
What we're arguing is that, more often than not, White people benefit from racism because of a White power structure that has been in place for centuries and strategically infected its way into many societies across the globe (so well to the point that people don't even realize it).
We're not blaming the Whites today for something their ancestors did.
We don't think all White people throw out the silverware after we eat with it in a restaurant.
We're not looking to eradicate the White race or send them away to Mars.
We're literally jut saying,
"We recognize that structural racism has embedded itself into our society.
We recognize that this racism specifically is beneficial to Whites and detrimental to persons of color.
We recognize that this has been happening for centuries and shows no signs of going away any time soon."

Everyone in this thread has been going on and on about how racism is worse than discrimination because it requires it to be institutionalized (and the power structure, especially in Britain to this day, is still against the Irish)

Don't let it get to you. I am lucky enough to be fluent in my first language. Don't you speak first language at home?

1) I'm not your sis.
2)You don't know a thing about me, and vice versa. But I'm not gonna play this game with you and pretend that some white person being called a "cracker" is equal to a black person being called a "coon" or Latino person being called a "wetback" and YOU know it too. You cannot erase a history of Caucasians (at least in the US) implementing programs to keep minorities down just so you can feel right. I will be the first to admit that there is prejudice against whites, but like really? Just stop.

I came in this thread to read about experiences other people had because I've never had anything like that. And now I'm leaving offended myself.

The semantics need to stop. Call it whatever you want, I think everyone here is bright enough to understand what issues are being discussed.
