Discussion: Looks or Personality: what's more important?

so.. I was discussing this a few moments ago, because my friend told me I should "date" this guy because he has a great personality, but he's not that cute to me (I have such high standards

), and I really don't wanna go out with him.

I know I'm being a biT superficial, but if you're not physically attracted to certain person, would you go out with him/her just based on their personality? are looks important to you? do you have standards when it comes to dating?

I'd like to know what you guys think about this

Well, I would prefer my partner not to be a complete zero. I can probably compromise for a 5 and maybe even a 4. A lot of the time I find flaws in people's physical appearance cute. And to me, cute > hot

Personality is the most important thing though. Even if someone was a 10, I wouldn't go out with them if they didn't have a personality.

How I see it, appearance catches your attention and then personality keeps it. You need both, in my opinion. If I'm not attracted to someone then I will probably subconsciously friend-zone them.

A nice personality is everything to me. An average guy with personality > A 10 with none at all.

It depends because if the guy has an amazing personality but he's not my type, I wouldn't date him, I'd only hang out with him.

For me the look is one of the most important things when you're going to start some affective relationship, it's like the 55% of importance.

Personality is definitely more important, but you have a right to care about physical appearance too! Of course it reaches a point if you have ridiculous standards that only harm yourself, but relationships should work out on every level and you're not obligated to ignore physical appearance. I mean if you're just stuck feeling uncomfortable about your partner's looks that will suck.

More emphasis on personality. I've gave chances to guys I wasn't necessarily be attracted to like that but their personality made me grow to like them more. Along with them turning out to be the people I would choose above the 1 that was interested in me. Not to say I don't like looks but it can only go so far imo.

Why talk to someone or get to know them if they are ugly. There's no way you can get to know someone's personality without the looks to get your attention. /sarcasm

Personally, I would not even actively search for someone to date. I would treat everyone as a friend, and if it grows into something more, great. If I happen to fall in love with someone, it would be because I liked their personality enough to continue talking with them, and if I loved them, the appearance wouldn't matter.

Personality always comes first, but I hate how people think you're shallow for paying attention to how someone looks. Physical attraction is very important in a relationship.

I kinda lean more towards personality than looks. I was at this party about two and half years ago, and there was this guy named Joel. I didn't think he was that cute to me, but in any event, we started talking and he had this amazing personality. He was vibrant, full of life and hilarious. We even had a few things in common. It was great. The funny thing is that he got progressively cuter throughout the night. I feel like it had a lot to do with his personality.

I prefer that, versus the extremely cute guy with a personality as bland as rice. Not the business.

Then again, you can't like everyone no matter how cute or how great their personality is. I've found that out as well.

All these people saying personality are LYING! Tell me, would you date a 300 pound guy with acne if he were funny and nice? NO! Looks are the foundation for any romantic relationship, period. If you aren't attracted to the person, it doesn't matter how cool they are, it just isn't going to work.
