Usually if I have a album to go through ill put the ones I am keeping 100% as a 5 and unsures at 1. then i go back and delete what I dont want. and then i reset the ratings to 0
Sometimes I do, just to help me figure out my real favorites when I have space issues on my phone or iPod or to do personal statistics out of curiosity.
I still use the previous version of iTunes and the song ratings are used to determine how often a song is played when shuffling a playlist in iTunes dj, e.g. in a certain time period a song rated 4 stars would be played more times than a song rated 1 star ect
i don’t know the purpose of it in iTunes 11 however, sorting i suppose ?
Back when I was younger, using Windows Media Player on a shared/family computer I use to take the rating system quite seriously.

because I use to think that when my mom went on the computer she'd look to see what songs I liked the most, and then buy me the albums. + I just liked people knowing what songs I liked and which I didn't.
I've never used the iTunes rating system before though.
I don't use it. Like, if I were to rate them, I would do it relative to each other, and with 5 stars there ain't much space to do that. Also most of the time my liking of each song relative to each other changes, so that would just stress me out.
Ain't nobody got time for that.
But I'm sure it holds value to some people, so oh well.
