I found a way to make the rating system slightly useful but if you already have a ton of songs with a really high play count you might have to adjust.
what i did was create a smart playlist which consists of my 250 most played songs and gave the songs that fell from between 250-201 1 star, 200-151 2 stars, 150-101 3 stars, 100-51 4 stars, and 50-1 5 stars.
i check the playlist as often as i can remember and after every ipod sync and give stars accordingly, but once a song gets a star it cannot be taken away if the song goes down on the list.
The more plays the songs get the more difficult it becomes for a song to get 1 star, so songs that got stars a few years ago had an easier time of getting them than a song now would, so i am considering expanding it to top 500 or resetting all the stars and starting over and have it be much more exclusive.. i think i have almost 500 songs with stars at this point out of 2500 songs.
and so with that method of using the rating system u can make other playlists with that information as well as be reminded much quicker of what were your faves on an album if play count isn't apparent enough.
if anyone tries this, let me know how they like it.
