Chickens Cross The Road After Tractor Trailer Overturns On BQE
February 21, 2008
Which came first -- the chickens or the traffic?
Drivers on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway early this morning were dealing with both, after a tractor trailer overturned on the roadway.
The rig, carrying a cargo of live chickens, overturned near the Flushing Avenue exit on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway at about 2:30 a.m., spilling a flock of feathered friends onto the road.
Some chickens were killed when their pens scattered across the highway, but others got out alive and were corralled by workers.
The roadway was closed for several hours as crews cleaned up the accident. At one point traffic was backed up to the Manhattan Bridge.
Police say the driver was not injured, but was taken to a local hospital for observation.
