U.S. pop queens Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus were the undisputed stars of the 2013 MTV Europe Music Awards, held tonight (Nov 10) at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, Netherlands.
Both singers won an award each with Katy Perry taking home the hotly-contested title of best female, beating off strong competition from Cyrus and Lady Gaga, who did not attend the event as she is due to launch her “ARTPOP” album in New York City.
“This is so cool,” said Perry accepting the best female award. “I was just sitting back there drinking champagne, looking at all those amazing artists thinking: ‘I’m not going to win.' But I did! It means the Katy cats are the bestest, strongest fans ever. Thank you to anybody who bought my new record. I love what I do. I hope that you see that,” she went on to say.
Perry also delivered one of the evening’s standout live performances with a powerful run through “Prism” track “Unconditionally,” which saw her elevated high above the crown on a hydraulic maypole as dancers circled below. The song culminated with Perry hanging 30 feet in the air, having metamorphosed into a human glitterball.
