Applause was nearly out of the top ten before the vmas. The performance helped plenty. GMA helped the song as much as it could. Were people expecting to jump to #1 based on that?

Let's not be blinded fans here. The vocals where great and she danced well, but I personally didn't like it. I find unnecessary the over acting and weirdness.. And the wigs and costumes looked so cheap.

first of all...the vmas helped alot... it's been in the top 5 ever since. secondly, swinefest was streamed so it didnt really have viewers, and GMA doesnt really cater to the people that buy her music. an snl performance would do wonders, but she's smart to save that for album promo.

The VMAs performance made Applause reach the top 3 again and right after the GMA performance aired it received 3 positive updates in a row. You just cannot expect the effect to last forever.

Y'all look really pathetic acting like the song is the biggest flop of the decade when it hasn't left the iTunes top 10 since its release. And for those thinking they represent the GP, well... I'm pretty sure her fans are not the only ones buying it.
