They covered different parts of it. Bowie, for example, was obvious with his art and literature references.
Madonna was a lot more subversive - an example of this is putting lightbulbs on the breasts of a Tamara de Lempicka painting at the beginning of Open Your Heart - what says more about post-modernism than that?
Gaga's going over already existing work.
The implication is clearly that she's marrying pop and art, and is the first one to do it. Perhaps she means in a more recent sense, but from her previously grandiose statements, would we really believe that?
|
Again, all I read was everybody can do it but Gaga can't. Not wasting my time anymore.

But, for instance, didn't Björk release an app for her latest album Biophilia?

Lennon INVENTED modern pop in the mainstream sense.
Bjork's '90s material is pop, with a twist on it. But the melodies, the sounds - all pop. She didn't get really freaky until Homogenic.
As for Bowie, listen to his early and '80s material (or rather, don't).

I know and listen to all 3 artists and all of their music goes deeper and is hardly mainstream pop
If I were you I would skip the "educate yourself" part because it makes your act look even more ridiculous. sry

But Gaga is living in her own generation and she is the only one in mainstream that is doing that ... and even If she is not the only 1 there is nothing wrong .. she is talking about her work ... what do you expect from her ? To say I am not the first one to mix art and music but I'll do it ?
And about the APP stop embarrassing yourselves ? Gaga said 1 year ago that she wants to work on an APP and she said clearly that she won't be the first one her words were: " I think Bjork did It as well as other artists, but I think that's the future' so why u still bring this up ?

From a single cover? We haven't even gotten the song, video or performances yet. How does that even make sense?

Pfffft. How Seinfeld of you.
But yes, she did. And her app had David Attenborough on it, and it's been scientifically proven that David Attenborough makes everything 163% better.

Have you even been following the thread?
The single cover only adds to my point. I'm talking about the overall concept, the one she has already vaguely explained.

So I decided to give this a try and boy..
There are a lot of artists in the music field who are able to describe something in one or 2 sentences like a normal human being. Try reading an interview with other artists and make a comparison, because it's not so black and white to the point where only generic artists give simple answers and "real" artists give you paragraphs full of nonsense.
Also, don't forget that the purest art speaks for itself. simplicity is always the key.

And...? They were all very successful and have all been classified at one time or another as pop artists, especially Bowie (whose music, might I add, has often been described as ''art-pop'', and if you don't believe me read some reviews of his and the other artists I've mentioned).

Nobody has any ''act'', except Gaga. The one where she pretends to be as smart as her influences.

Lol not much fan of the music Lady Gaga but to put Madonna on a pedastal is just laughable.
Her attempts to conect her music with art was always as blatant as everyone else in the Pop business.

This is considered for Lady Gaga, but also for Madonna, Björk or David Bowie
And Bowie is not a God, look when he was on Stage with Klaus Nomi, he looked like a dwarf.

Lol no. Of course the monsters - with their fuelled obsession of hating Madonna - will agree and clap at this, but you're way off.

Of course their records were popular, but non of them was ever going for/ is known for mainstream pop. I see that you're somehow bothered by Gaga and that it ain't easy for you but in your case I would slow down a bit if you don't want to miss the big single release party because of your spamming and trolling (taken from the last site alone).

That bit annoys me. She says it as if it's a new idea, when people like Bjork, Madonna, Bowie, John Lennon etc. have already covered this, extensively.
Plus, the cover is a total rip off of Bowie's Scary Monsters era covers.

Different artists in different ages refer to art for inspiration and interpret in their own way. No single artist has claim over a reverence to art. Unless the said art originates from him /her. I would agree with you on born this way sounding like express yourself. But NOT this. Gaga used the ***** wagon in telephone video doesn't mean others can't

or teens making photos of trash in the city, putting it on their indexbibit blog (cuz it's "old vintage coding" and tumblr is "out")... and later that day making posts on a celeb forum about bowie (who, let's be honest, they don't even know) and gaga being "real" artists.
