I can't stand electronic dance music. I think it's been the plague of the music business over this past five or so years, and is basically destroying it. Similar to disco; it's a genre that's less about the artist and more about the producer. Seems like anybody plucked off the street can make it, despite how little talent they might have, because it doesn't focus on talent -- just an obnoxious tempo/beat/syths. But what's sad is that more talented artists who built their career on music with more substance and style have been reduced to having to jump on board with it, and subsequently dumbing themselves.

No. Really high-quality electronic music is actually rather complex. There are so many production aspects and melodical factors that the producers take into account when crafting their work. There is a degree of musical talent needed, if you want to be any good.

I really don't think you'll find many people who disagree with you on ATRL, a pop forum that revolves around the lives of (mostly) female popstars who all have dabbled in - and made careers out of - the very same genre you despise.

In your post, though, you mentioned that EDM basically gives the producer a chance to shine rather than the actual artist. What's so wrong about that? Producers should be credited as much as the singer if a song blows up around the world.

I only hate the term "EDM" because it's so unnecessary and meaningless. But no I love good electronic (dance) music. There was more of it in the past though.

Though I definitely don't think it's as easy to make as you seem to, and I don't think an artist has to be dumbing themselves down just because they choose to experiment with it.

No. I hate that EDM gets discredited for being "artificial" and "cheap" when it involves a lot more musicality and talent than some of these 4 chord rock songs that get marketed as "authentic" and "real".

PS - Dance music will always exist. And if it is so easy to make a hit then try it out.

EDM destroyed good music. Everyone can make music now because you don't need to have a good voice, auto-tune etc. fix it for you lol.... but for R&B etc. you must have a good voice and talent. Every dance music sounds the same, it's getting annoying so I'm sure it will die soon or it will get much bigger...

Nope, it's amazing as ****. Bass heavy electronic music slays me, and is rather hard to make.

i think it's very narrow-minded and ignorant to oppose an entire genre of music like this. sure the pop music industry has become very over saturated with dance producers since like 2008, but pop always goes through phases and trends like this.

if you actually scratch beneath the surface of mainstream pop, the EDM scene actually has many amazing artists and producers and there's much to be appreciated.

EDM (and disco) aren't made for the soul, they're made for fun. Fun is great, too, you know?
I really can't take you seriously. You just dissmissed two huge genres because of a few pop songs influenced by them.
And yes, it will go away, there's no need to be so grumpy about it.

I love EDM. With good ear gear the tracks sound amazing. I just hate the generic ones we get now. They sound so lazy and unimaginative. The pop girls need to step up because the sound is not on par with the EDM we get from Some underground EDM artists. Well not all but most of them

Mainstream artists were always going to water down the underground genres to appeal to the masses, though. I don't think any of the pop girls will ever really pick up the more concentrated underground EDM and do it justice.

EDM isn't near my favorite genre of music . But I have to say that all type of music requires a set of skills and talent
