Well then, I guess you need reading comprehension classes because I said that Whitney never rose back, unlike like Mariah who peaked in the 90's then flopped stood up, and kept on getting those #1's.
They weren't even that local, She still sold those albums and singles where hardly and pop girl can. Japan, now did Whitney slay Japan?
|
If anything, it's Whitney whose local. US was the only market she dominated.

Whitney had multiple successful eras, albums, singles, tours & films in the 80s and 90s. Mariah had the 90s and then a two year period in the 00s where she was relevant again.

You are so funny.
Why did you suddenly turn this into a who sold more thing?
1998. Then she didn't release at all (only JW in 2002), because we all know what happened. She wasn't active so you can try with something else.

Whitney is only winning by a landslide because she's dead. It's a tough competition, tbh.

Because of her pop diva image. That's what was revolutionary. A POP diva working with hip-hop artists.

All this "Whitney is winning because she's dead".
Before she was dead, Whitney Houston was constantly recognized for many of the things that people have mentioned in this thread: the changing of the way people sang through her own vocal style, her revitalizing the power ballad, breaking down barriers for black, R&B, pop and female artists etc.
So stop with that excuse.

Not really. "Alright" was a New Jack Swing song with a featured rapper as was "You want This" and "New Agenda". They were not Hip Hop songs, they just featured rappers. It was done before Janet. The Fantasy remix was a Pop-Hip Hop song.

I know
Whitney was ridiculed so much when she was still alive in her rock-bottom era, and she never recovered, where as Mariah had her rock bottom, became a laughingstock and came back harder than ever.

Destiny's Chidl/Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Britney Spears, NSYNC/Justin Timberlake, Usher, Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, etc.
Even Janet (Got til it's Gone) started making music that was part pop, part hip hop after 1995. It's probably the reason New Jack Swing just completely disappeared, we had a sound that could replace it. It became a formula.

US is just a small part of the world. You can see Whitney's influence all around the world and present to this day not only in the USA and in one genre. Thank you.

I can tell you're mad. Relax.
LMAO, well maybe because she stopped releasing music?
Japan and the Mariah stans. Classic! Let's just say she was busy with the whole world.

Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds? "They were not hip-hop songs, they just featured rappers". By that logic, someone can easily say "Fantasy wasn't a hip-hop song, it just featured a rapper."
Fantasy (remix) is a POP/HIP-HOP song BECAUSE of its incorporation of a rap artist.

Michael Jackson was the one who broke the black barrier, male and female.

She didn't. If it wasn't for Michael, Whitney wouldn't even have a career.

And if it wasn't for other black artists before MJ, he wouldn't have had a career. What's your point, and how does it in any way discredit mine?

Did you forget that Look to You had the highest first week sales by a female in 2009? That it was platinum and was her biggest peaking album in the U.K + other countries since the 90s? That she had her first Top 5 single in the U.K in years?
