Yeah, I agree. I really don't like Madness or Survival but I'm hoping the rest of the album will deliver

I've loved both songs so far, especially Madness. Very excited for this.
Why do some people have a problem when a band moves its sound forward? They can't keep doing the exact same stuff forever.

Loving this album! One cracking song after another.
The only song I don't like is "Liquid State". It doesn't even sound like Muse. It's like some naff Foo Fighters-esque band, which Muse are head and shoulders above. Matt doesn't sing it. I can't stand when bands do that, especially when the usual vocalist has an incredible voice like his. It used to piss me off when songs sung by other band members started popping up on albums by Travis years ago. I hope this is just a one-off.

I don't know why everyone hates what they've heard so far, as if it's so different from everything else they've ever released..?

I don't know either. Survival was classic Muse. Madness is a little different, but still very much them.
Absolutely thrilled with the album. I think it's better than the last one actually.

I can't believe it missed it leaking since I was in a lecture. Is it good so far?

Going to listen to the whole thing now, updating this with edits after listening to each track.
Supremacy - Well, this album is going to have a tough time topping the first song. This was unbelievable! The orchestral feel of the song really sent this song above and beyond.
Madness - Gee, I wonder what I think of this song.
Panic Station - The chameleons are at it again. This is probably the funkiest I can ever recall Muse sounding. Almost INXS-esque...and that's a pretty big compliment, because I happen to like INXS quite a bit.
Prelude/Survival - I still adore this song, even if no one else does. It's so Queen that it humps you in the face with it.
Follow Me - This has single written all over it. Absolutely beautiful track.
Animals - The guitar in this song gave me CHILLS. Having said that, people who think Muse still sound like Radiohead will have some ammo here...though I think it sounds more like Pink Floyd than Radiohead, honestly.
Explorers - This sounds like a mix of fifteen different songs, and it comes together beautifully. And then...GOOOOOOO TOOOOOOO SLEEEEEEEEP. Thanks, Matt. No, really, thanks for that. Maybe you can finally help me sleep correctly.
Big Freeze - Yeah, this sounds just a WEE bit like U2 for my liking. Sounding a bit like U2 is fine. Sounding just like U2 is another thing entirely. Probably the only track that doesn't do much for me so far. Even "Explorers" has elements of songs that I really enjoy fused together.
Save Me - Yay, the first of the Chris songs! I'm afraid to say this, but I'd actually like to hear more Chris songs on future albums. It's a refreshing change of pace. And I never thought I'd say that, given how much I worship at the altar of Matt Bellamy, but his voice adds a new dimension to the band.
Liquid State - I'd compare this song more to Queens of the Stone Age and Josh Homme's other projects than the Foo Fighters, really. Not a fantastic song, and I like "Save Me" more, actually, but I'm sure it will grow on me.
The 2nd Law: Unsustainable - I still really enjoy the Matt vocalization part a LOT, and it's still one of my favorite parts on the album. I have to be in the right mood to REALLY enjoy this song, but when I am, watch out.
The 2nd Law: Isolated System - Nice way to close the album out. Way more instrumental than I expected, but whenever I need a calm song to just play in the background while I do stuff, this is one of the first songs that I will play.
Overall, I'd say it's better than Showbiz by a mile. Thankfully. I'd put it ahead of The Resistance, and I'd even consider the possibility of putting it ahead of Absolution...maybe. BHAR is my favorite album ever, so good luck topping that, and I don't think anything will be BETTER than Origin, but Muse has accomplished something pretty special with this album. I was fearing something pretty *gulp* average, and what I got was what I should always expect from Muse: Greatness.

Weren't you just complaining about Push and Shove?
And change is never a bad thing, but we shouldn't pretend that this new stuff is anywhere near as good as their past work. "Madness" is the best thing they've released, but everything else is a mess. I'll give it a listen, hopefully it exceeds my expectations.
