Some black women and gay black men do. As for the rest, nothing comes before God

The ignorance flying in this thread left and right is mind boggling.

She's never been open about who she was. That's why Rihanna has more respect. You can get to know every other pop singer on a personal level (Britney, Lady GaGa, Christina, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Madonna, Michael Jackson, etc.) because you know where they came from. You know nothing of Beyonce.

Beyonce is pretty open about who she is and her upbringing...and she gets a lot of respect for not having her personal business in the tabloids...clearly you're not a fan and haven't done your research

I've seen plenty of people commend Bey for keeping her personal life out of the spot light
MJ wasn't as open about his personal life as you think...it wasn't really until later years

Beyonce's biography would literally start with Destiny's Child. Rihanna's would talk about her actual personal life so people can get a grasp of who the real Rihanna is.

As harsh as this sounds, the only thing we know about Rihanna is that she got beat up by her boyfriend. We have no idea who she is outside of that.

What does this have to do with being respected by the black community?

Rihanna talked about her father being on drugs and how that affected her upbringing. You would never hear about Beyonce talking about how her parents' divorce affected her, how her father cheating on her mother affected her, and she doesn't even acknowledge her little brother (who's innocent in the situation).

I'm not even black, but I live in one of the biggest African-American communities in California. Besides the rappers, I can ALWAYS hear Beyonce's songs playing on other people's phones
