Earlier today, I somehow got into a discussion with someone about this subject.
They basically said that the reason that we were put on earth was to reproduce and for being gay I would go to hell, and because I'm gay, I obviously can't reproduce, so I said that I disagree because that would mean that even straight people who don't have children would be sent to hell.

Gays shouldn't be allowed to marry if they changed the rules of marriage to adhere completely to the religious crowd and their beliefs.

But in marriages current state, its just blatant discrimination.

I don't see why anyone should have any say in any relationship that has nothing to do with them. As long as it isn't harming anyone, who cares?

Marriage is older than Christianity so it pisses me off when Christians call moral superiority and claim that it is a Christian construct, it's not.

Mmmm...I'm bi. If I was in a gay relationship...I dunno if i'd use it...only because my parents know..but not my family (and I'd planned my life out as a straight guy, now I'm doing the opposite). I think it is fair after watching the It could happen to you video that anyone over 18 can marry who they please.

1. Marriage is not a requirement to reproduce.
2. Infertile people can still get married.
3. How disturbing would it be if reproduction was the only reason people got married?

I don't know what I think. I 100% agree with civil partnerships, but I don't know enough about the issue of homosexual religious marriage to say what i think should happen.

True. But people are using the biblical marriage covenant between a man and a woman. Also the majority of western government was built on christian values, so that's where that comes from.

And gays can still reproduce, it's not like anything is stopping them from having a surrogate mother or even have sex with a woman if they want.

There needs to be a legal union between two of the same gender with the same benefits married people have.

It does not have to be necessarily a religious marriage.
A church/priest does not have to oversee the union or "bless" it or whatever they do.

I just want the government to be able to recognize the fact that gay couples have the same legal rights straight couples have. Then we're good.

That is a civil partnership. Well in the Uk.

But what about churches who are okay with marrying gays? Why should they be stopped from doing them and having the legal rights tied in like a heterosexuals?

Separation of church and state.

Gays should be able to have religious marriages all they want, as long as the church they want to marry them agrees to do it.

That's what the gay marriage debate is all about -- the ability to choose who we marry, and what kind of marriage we want, religious or not, is up to us, not the government.

Well in that case they should be stopping Marriages
a) between atheists
b) between those of another religion
c) between a Christian an someone of another religion, unless said person converts.

Otherwise it's hypocritical.

Especially in a country like America which was founded on the principal of freedom of religion, if people are free to practise any religion they please then they should not be bound by the laws of any particular religion. The law should be basic moral guidelines, not religious law.

Here's the tea. The government shouldn't force churches to marry gays but a marriage between gays performed by a church who wants to should be legally recognized.

We have that too in the U.S. Only in certain states though, and some states only give partial rights.
