95. Avril Lavigne- Smile
Avril Lavigne was back full-force in 2011, after the early success of "What the Hell", and "Smile" only strengthened her return as a huge pop star. The song features talk-singing reminiscent of Ke$ha, and a soaring, bold chorus similar to one from Katy Perry.
This is the first of three songs by Avril Lavigne on the chart.
94. Colbie Caillat- Brighter Than the Sun
Colbie Caillat was back in 2011 with her third studio album,
All of You, which contained the bright, summery single "Brighter Than the Sun". The song's clever verses and irresistible chorus made it a top contender for constant radio play in the second half of 2011, and it's not done yet, with a position of #60 on the Hot 100 and still rising.
This is the first of two songs by Colbie Caillat on the chart.
93. Nicki Minaj feat. Drake- Moment 4 Life
Somewhat of a surprising choice for me, given that I'm not hugely into rap or R&B artists. However, Moment 4 Life was the song that was able to introduce Nicki to the pop audience in a way that neither "Your Love" or "Right Thru Me" did, and set her up for the multiformat smash that was "Super Bass". Plus, Drake absolutely killed it on this song.
This is the first of two songs by Nicki Minaj on the chart.
92. Maroon 5- Give a Little More
The boogie-funk infused jam "Give a Little More" served as the second single from Maroon 5's 2010 album "Hands All Over", and while it was far from flawless, which showed in its chart performance, it became a huge guilty pleasure of mine in the early part of 2011.
This is the first of two songs by Maroon 5 on the chart.
91. The Downtown Fiction- I Just Wanna Run
It's really sad to think that this band, and their songs, will likely never become popular in the mainstream. "I Just Wanna Run" definitely deserved to be another "Tonight Tonight" or "Blackout", but instead it stalled at #23 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. Oh well. They're still great. Listen to the song and I
guarantee you will get hooked.
This is the only song by The Downtown Fiction on the chart.
