#theory and if the gyms are actually open air now, I think the manmade structure is both Victory Road and the league. They've obviously put a lot more work into making the major battles immersive this gen. Showcasing and preserving nature seems to be a theme. Usually you battle gym leaders indoors and go through a natural system which doubles as victory road. This time it might be the inverse: the gym battles take place in nature, and the routes and towns seem sparse and non-intrusive on the environment. Then you go through a manmade Victory Road which is removed from nature to add contrast.

I wonder if they will call each of the Pokemon a different name when referring to them early on? Tapu Koko is a strange name for a Pokemon and it could be referencing Marshadow?

but the manmade island isn't one of the four? I mean this is possible, but that doesn't explain the 4 guardians of the non-man-made islands.
