I hate tipping unless the server really deserves it. I mean do y'all tip your trash collectors, street cleaners, bathroom attendants, McDonalds workers as well? Because they put up and do much worse jobs and I don't see them expecting tips.

If the server gives really good service then I will tip. If not, then sorry, but they shouldn't be working there if they are demanding tips from their customers even with bad service. Go find the money you want at another job rather than harrassing customers.

In the US, absolutely. But I hear plenty of places in Europe, for example, pay their waiters decent wages, so tips aren't necessary there.

Those people all make minimum wage at the very least, or significantly more in the case of trash collectors (if I heard correctly). It's only compassionate to leave SOME tip for people who are making 2$ an hour and serving you.

Like I said, if the service is really good then yes I will tip. But if not, then I don't see the point of throwing money at someone who doesn't care for their job.

As a default I tip just over 10% (whatever rounds up to the nicest change - say if the meal was £12.50 I might just leave a £1.50 tip. It usually ends up being between 10-15%) if the service is rude or just plain bad however I have no problem leaving 0%, and if the server is especially friendly or makes an extra effort I'm happy to leave up to 20-22%

I do ALWAYS tip...but if it was bad...i really do the bare minimum...10%, maybe a bit less depends...i generally do about 20-25% since I work in customer service...

In the US, yes it's very rude. I tip the pizza man, my barber, the Chinese delivery guy, at the coffee shop, etc. I worked in the food service industry so I know how it feels not too be tipped.

I remember in high school though I went to eat breakfast at a restaurant and I told the waitress that I had just enough to get the food and she was pretty gracious about it, I guess cause of my age. I try to tip at least 15-20%, depending on the level of service.
