This is a good point.
Electropop mainly broke out because people like Gaga and the BEP were the biggest acts around and the biggest purporters of the act. Without Gaga it's influence would have lessened and the whole dancepop scene in mainstream would have been around the same level as R&B today; it has a growing influence but it's not that big.
Katy can say goodbye to putting cheese blocks on her head, Rihanna can say goodbye to wrapping herself in barbed wire, Nicki can say goodbye to existing and Ke$ha actually would probably be a bit bigger due to her being a poor man's Gaga when she debuted.
I know certain stanbases have gotten a little cocky about kicking down Gaga right now but at least she had something valuable to lose
