She debuted at #6 with her lead single after a lot of hype not only by her fans but also Gaga herself, a radio deal, a televised music video premiere and a confirmation of a performance at the VMAs. Not to mention she's coming from a string of three #1 albums all of which had tons of multiplatinum singles and a sold out world tour.

The radio deal was only for 2 days, not exactly big promo and Applause wasn't officially sent to radio until the 19th. The music video stabilized it's sales so it's part worked and the effect of the performance doesn't fully affect sales until she PERFORMS it.
She only has one #1 album in the US, that being Born This Way so I don't know where you're getting three from. And it's kind of funny how you mention she had many multiplatinum hits with those 3 albums when none of them were platinum in their first week. Comparing a song that's only been out for 2 weeks to songs that had many many weeks to go multiplatinum? LMAO
