Janet is well known in Central Europe, my mom knew her songs also during communist regime in my country, when the government censored everything, including music. She has the same status like Mariah or Whitney here.

The numbers may be wrong, but the list in large isn't. Those are the best selling female artists, in that order. Mariah has sold more then Celine because Mariah's singles give her the edge in terms of overall records sold. Celine hasn't sold as much singles as Mariah has, although it may be close Mariah has the advantage there because her singles were bigger. Both Britney and Janet are under reported due to their record labels but they have sold around the figures given. I am not sure about the sales for those after that but I have seen chart watchers estimate those numbers, so they are definitely out there.

Celine has two 30+ million selling albums. Her biggest single is bigger then all of Mariahs but quite a large margin. And she outsold her last decade. She has been reported by more sources then Mariah as of lately. I'm not even going to comment on Britney and Janet anymore, Because as you said, Both are under reported.

I don't see how y'all can say that you can't name more than 1 or 2 of her songs. Control? Nasty? Rhythm Nation?!?!

Maybe some people on her don't know her because they are like 14 years old?
I am 26 and I can tell that in Germany she was a force during the 90s and ealry 00s:
She had hits, good album sales, she was a star - when she was on a german TV Show that got a lot of publicity.
It all turned with Damita Jo, just like in the US. But before that she was a big star.
"Janet" sold 20 million ww, TVR 10 million, AFY 7 million and mostly more than half of that came from outside the US.

No
Granted, she's not a world force like big brother but Ms. Janet has had a substantial amount of success in and outside the states which is no small feat.

The Netherlands is the 8th biggest market?
OT: Well, I wouldn't think so, but I am American. From some of the receipts people are showing it does look like she kinda is. The thing is you have to remember this was before the internet. It was a lit harder back then to break out into other markets.

I'm certainly not.

In my country, people all know about MJ and his songs, but Janet was never popular here. And most people don't know her songs, tbh. Madonna is way more popular here.

Janet’s biggest selling single worldwide is “Together Again”; in 1998 it was the 4th biggest selling single of the year in Europe (2nd biggest for a female, only outsold by Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”). Worldwide sales according to Virgin Records are over 6 million copies, one of the largest selling singles ever from a female artist. “Together Again” spent nearly 50 weeks in the Top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100
It also remains one of the longest charting hits in Billboard history. “Together Again” sold over 760,000 in the UK making it one of the biggest selling singles ever in the UK from a female artist, “Together Again” sold over 600,000 copies in Germany also earned a Platinum certification just 2 months after it was released. “Together Again”, also went Platinum in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, South Africa, Italy, and even went Double Platinum in New Zealand.

Ooop, Duca. your work ain't workin.
Yes, some people may be more global than Janet. But in the field "acclaim" they couldn't even hit the corner. Janet went to the moon. General public still see some people as untalented and fabricated artists. I'd rather be the one who inspirated a whole generation.

I call this song State of the Forums.
I wrote it about this thread. I was inspired by the delusion.
"What is happening to this forum we post in? In our home and other lands.
Delusion spreading on the streets.
People can't accept the receipts.
Lies are being told everyday.
That's the state of the forums today"
What do you think
