Sorry, but this is just a plain dumb thing to say. The increase in singles sales says nothing about this generations attention span, it is due to the convenience of buying just that one track you heard on the radio and liked, as well as the convenience of being able to buy just the good tracks as opposed to the filler.
Nobody sold 65 million albums before or after Thriller, and in this market why should you assume that even the most famous person can outsell 21? Madonna had a massively successful and critically praised album in 2005, and even back then it only sold 12 million. At the peak-so-far of Gaga's career she only sold 16.5 million with an album that was present on the charts for over 2 years and that earned great critical praise compared to other pop girls' releases. 21 had a large variety of reasons it sold so much, one being that it appealed to a wider audience. There's no reason to assume anyone else is currently capable of such sales.
