It is pretty much a James Wan signature. Just like the song (Tiptoe Through The Tulips) in Insidious, and the music box in The Conjuring. It's trying to created a eerie dissonance that catches audience's attention (of course, I wouldn't say it was well done in Conjuring 2)
At the same time, it also extends the Demonology from the first film. Demons latch onto human object to strain people. Annabelle/Music Box in the first film are the human objects that got possessed;

Lights Out isn't written or directed by him tho, only produced. He produced Insidious 3 and Annabelle and we all saw how those turned out.
Watched the Houses October Built, it was kinda good, the ending was bad tho.
Also rewatched The Purge: Anarchy, ugh still so good, one of my fave horror of the last years. Excited for Election Year!

Simply amazing. The Hostel inspiration, though. So good.
The more I see the Lights Out trailer, the more unimpressed I get LOL. James is definitely superior behind the camera, evident as mentioned.
Test screen reviews tell me it's pretty tight and fast paced though, so maybe it won't be too bad. Then again, it's reportedly pretty short (81 minutes) and the theatrical trailer before Conjuring played almost like watching the movie.
Still gonna watch it but low expectations for now.

It's not!! Well Imma say this if you liked the witch and it follow aka those atmospheric movies you'll like this. The movies wasn't just about scares it has an actual story that's why they said it was a different possession movie. It's telling a story it's not just random. If you appreciate artsy horror you'll like it.

I agree. It does not achieve the effectiveness of Annebell. I get the idea of why it's there but it is just not well done
Just saw The Conjuring 2 for the second time and I still loved it (though I've decided I prefer the first one). Am I crazy or did Janet's older sister look an awful lot like Gigi Hadid?
