I stopped using it last November after making a new account, and I deleted it this week. It's kinda boring and useless now. I've been looking for a replacement for awhile now.
I basically use it to talk to people about music and of course I do like to look at my charts, but I don't really need a website to tell me who my favorite artists are It's boring at times.
It's weird that I was just thinking earlier today about last.fm declining, and then I read this article. I started thinking about it because I went to Drake's page and noticed that Take Care (album) had 452,000 listeners, while Nothing Was the Same only had 251,000 listeners. That's a steep drop-off in listeners, and I doubt it was simply because 200,000 less people stopped listening to Drake. They just stopped using last.fm.
Last.fm has been the most important site to me in recent years.
I wouldn't have even known about half of the artists that I currently listen to if it weren't for Last.fm.
Last.fm just needs to rebrand as a central music hub.
They need to allow scrobbling from any source that plays music and can connect to the site.
Restoring the radio definitely wouldn't hurt.
I don't see the site closing. There's still life left in it.
Any lover of music should have an appreciation for that site... if you're using it properly.
