The repetitive choruses worked well for both SIO and OOTW. SIO is supposed to just be a catchy, fun song. OOTW utilizes its repetitive chorus to represent the anxiety-riddled feelings she had about her fragile relationship. In my opinion, it works perfectly.
Repetitive doesn't always equate to bad.
And there's really no other choruses on 1989 that utilize the same repetition as these two songs, so can we all move on?
I was in the car and it popped on the radio and I didn't know who sang it - thought it was Avril. I usually don't stan for Taylor but hoolyyy shitttt this song is so good! When I heard it, it caused my chest to ache because it was absolutely perfect!!!
update : i was singing this in the toilet and my mum thought it was doing a satanic chant
I think this is quite possibly my favorite Taylor song yet. She's turned me into a fan this era, which I never thought was possible. I'm halfway to stanning at this point. I love both this and SIO. I'm so excited for the album now.
So so soooo much better than Shake It Off !!
I love it
Sameeee
I kind of wish she had this as her lead single. she could have made a really beautiful video with forest scenery / winter theme and a guy as a lead and everything.
SIO seems so basic next to this song IMO. The production sounds so beautiful and different too. I might actually stan for Taylor this era if her songs keep getting better
A lot of early released songs by big name artists get spins regardless of their status. If you watch the 51-250 positions of CHR/Pop radio around the release of an album by said artists, you will see the bottom (and sometimes higher) full of their album tracks.
