Miguel Sapochnik is said to direct a big Hollywood movie soon, so he might not even come back for Season 8.

Neil Marshall, who has directed "Blackwater" and "The Watchers On The Wall" has also been praised by the showrunners and the fans, but hasn't come back.

I'm sad because Miguel gave the last two episodes some very good creative ideas: it was his idea to bury Jon Snow alive during the battle, to have a "re-birth" moment for him and to have scenes inside the sept immediately before and while the explosion happened.

D&D just wanted to see the explosion from the outside, which would've been dumb.
We can't trust them.

Also, like I said upthread when someone wanted him to direct a whole season: Jack Bender had to block aside 6 months just to direct 2 episodes. Logistically it would be very difficult for one person to direct even 6 episodes of this show and not have to delay things.

The show has multiple directors working in the same time frame to be able to get everything done, as the show shoots by location, not episode order.

Excited for Alan Taylor. He gave us the last 2 episodes of S1, and some great Mad Mens, and an Emmy winning Sopranos ep among others.

He's a very cinematic director. D&D think in terms of what's the easiest and fastest to produce for TV.

Like I said, they need him now because they no longer have the books for great dialogue. They're relying purely on the visual storytelling now.

GRRM knows how to write for these characters. They were struggling with Tyrion this season.

I can believe it as much as I want to.

Some highlights not written by GRRM that are quite good:
The entire Arya/Tywin thing
Sansa speaking up for Petyr on trial
Sansa's first confrontation with Aunt Lysa
Probably most of the great Sansa scenes this season
Maybe the explosion scene given the lack of POV characters there

I dgaf about Tyrion mostly. And his stuff in book 5 is garbage.

I think she might. The writer's will probably let her score a few wins here and there like they did with Ramsay, just so her fans can kii for a while. But she will ultimately be ended, and it won't be pretty
