And idg the idea that Rihanna is not anymore controlled by label, she hates pop music. Her dance songs like DSTM, WFL are some of her best efforts and showcase her distinctive flare. If she thinks there is something special or excellent about PIU, then someone better tell her to stay with head on ground. Cause PIU is a song that could be sung by anyone and isn't either memorable or something that adds to her legacy.

I think you're misinterpreting what I'm trying to say. I don't think R8 will be another pure pop album a la Loud or 1989 like you suggested. But that doesn't mean she's done w pop music.... like others have said there could still be pop elements but a whole album is very unlikely IMO.
As for the label. No I don't think Rih is fully controlled by her label. Rihanna has always been outspoken and when she doesn't like something or wants to do something she simply does it. She put out BC without even talking to her label.
PIU video got release 6 months later. Do you honestly think a label would leave that much room in between song release and video if they had full control.
What Now was not promoted in the US when the AMAs would've been the perfect opportunity to get it in Top 20. Again no label who has full control over an artist career is gonna miss opportunities to make money.
It's a joint effort. Rih consults w her team but she also does what she feels is best for her.
