We will never know how Liam would do on that part so it's basically a moot point.

the reason liam has been getting less solos as the albums progress is cos his voice is not special or unique imo
he sounds like so many other male singers
harry has his unique raspiness not to mention how strong his voice is & it just gets better with every album & theres a reason he gets all the choruses & the most vocal time
zayns voice just keeps getting better & he hits the high notes way better than liam imo
louis has a very unique voice & always stands out
& i prefer nialls voice as well & i think he has improved vocally a lot

wheras liam still sounds the same as he always has
thats just my opinion of why he went from having the most vocal time on UAN to less & less with TMH & MM
i still love his voice i just dont think he has progressed like the rest of the boys have

The difference between Liam and Harry is that Liam is a good singer with good technique while Harry lacks breath control

Just sayin. Harry is a decent singer, but having bad technique isn't the same as being "unique".

Harry does have bad technique. That is not up for debate.

I agree he has an interesting tone, and it is pleasant now and again.

I will say that IMO Zayn is the most naturally gifted singer in the group, but I doubt that will last with his smoking.

Liam is best overall singer when you take into account talent and technique.

maybe he doesnt have the best "technique" or whatever but tbh passion & uniquness & just an overall incredible voice are more important to me than learning how to do the perfect note

I don't think anybody said it was the same thing. His voice is still unique.

I respect peoples opinions if they like his tone.

...but Harry's technique issues are not debatable. The reason he struggles with his notes on belts is he isn't using his breath efficiently enough to sustain them and control the notes. The way he sings is very breathy, which is part of what gives him a unique tone, but it wastes a lot of air as well which means that sometimes it is not there when he needs it.

He is essentially the opposite of Zayn. Zayn can belt all day, but tends to not have the vocal control to stay on pitch during the verses.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Harry does tend to sing from his throat when you're supposed to sing from the diaphragm.

Liam does sing from the diaphragm. I'll give him that.

But I think Penny's point still stands that Harry's voice is more distinctive than Liam's

I don't disagree with that, but the good sis did claim his technique wasn't bad, which the point that I was addressing.

I do think that Liam's voice is wasted a bit in a group. I think he would sound much better on solo material.

I meant in live performances. I mean he has a great voice, but he whispers through his solos, although this X Factor performance was an improvement.

Harry's voice is distinctive but that shouldn't be the only factor. If tthat were the case Louis would get the most solos.

Liam has the ability to sound unique. His baritone is amazing along with his falsetto. I think that from the beginning Liam was the most technically sound and dependable so he became the base voice for all songs and this has carried through to their albums. His voice can blend to any tone even Harry's, he's like a chameleon. That means he barely gets a chance to show off.

Harry on the other hand chooses to highlight the raspy qualities of his voice but he can't control it live. However Liam and Niall can belt out raspy rock vocals as well as evident in BSE and OWOA.

I remember a couple interviews with Nick Grimshaw when those two songs came out and they were playing a game to guess who was singing what part. Nick kept guessing every raspy vocal was Harry and was getting it wrong. Even in the fandom people thought Liam didn't have solos in BSE and OWOA until the video came out.

Zayn just the one with the most raw vocal talent. His solo in the bridge of BSE is always drowned out by the other 4 singing oh oh oh into mics that are full volume. And tbqh I've only heard him miss pitch on riffs a handful of times. Almost never in concert.

I think it's because Zayn is an R&B and Urban singer and music lover and has been since the beginning. Even his best friends share that musical taste. He likes Usher, Chris Brown, Drake (especially) artists like that. I think that's why he doesn't write as much as the others.

Niall loves 80s rock this album is his niche. Same for louis and harry. Liam's just a general music lover he's like the bridge between a Zayn and the others.

That's not the only factor. I love his voice. And I can't really explain what exactly it is that I love about it tbh. Maybe like Penny said, he his voice has a lot of passion. But good technique shouldn't just be the only factor either.

Say Harry has bad control/technique all you want, but my problem is when people make his voice out to be unpleasant/downright horrid. But opinions are opinions.

And Grimmy just thinks every single voice is Harry's because he's clearly in love with him, and clearly no one else matters to him.

About people not even knowing whether or not Liam had a solo in OWOA or BSE, that basically proves that his voice is not distinctive.

I know. And that's the bittersweet part about it. I love them as a group, but I really wanna hear Zayn solo. He has a beautiful voice that fit R&B and I'd so be here for it. I don't want him to be unhappy with the music they put out. It's unfair imo, but he keeps signing contracts so idk.
