I wouldn't necessarily equate basic with bad, however, her music has increasingly become more and more safe, generic, and family-friendly, as to appeal to the most people possible. The very little edge she had during her "Ur So Gay" days is now completely gone. One of the Boys had a bit of that spark, but the time she released Roar, it was totally washed away. She's like the summer blockbuster of pop stars: loud, colorful, shiny, accessible, there to make as much money as possible and appeal to the greatest amount of people, but not necessarily bad.

The only years she took a break was in 2008 and 2013, and she still has 13 #1. Katy has NINE #1 from only 3 albums (the majority from 2). How is that even compared to what Rihanna is doing, I mean, how can you say she has had the same amount of #1s in the first 3 albums? Rihanna got her 9th #1 by the time TTT was released.

You're taking a rather pedestrian view of 'diversity', looking only for sonic difference

Sure, one song may sound 90's!!! and another may sound Christmassy!!!, but amongst the thematic dressing up her work on TD and Prism is heavily deferent to radio trends/structure and her lyrics are very obvious.

Structurally and lyrically her work is monolithic.
