Don't compare Katy to Rihanna, who can't catch a break and releases every year . I love me some Rih but katy has NINE #1 at only two albums, while Rihanna has 13 with 3-4 times more albums than Katy (sorry lost count).
Also do you even know the meaning of the word replaceable? If Rihanna would have replaced Katy in the singles department, then nobody would have cared/bought Katy's singles, which surely is untrue.

Katy = US
Rihanna = WW. But lets not get into that right now. Rihanna has more #1's than Katy. Fact. So what if Rihanna's released more albums. I doubt Katy will catch up to Rihanna anyways. She's shown her first sign of decline with this era. (Unconditionally and Birthday).

One of The Boys was a bit quirky and fun. I don't want to talk about the other two.

It's not about the genre.
Madonna is pop and she took risks.

I'd rather agree with Buzzfeed and Gawker, what "credible" sources are tryna call her groundbreaking + innovative, though?
Gawker didn't lie.

No, just for her to try something new, something outside the box of the formula pop radio songs. Her first album/earlier material was more bold IMO than anything else she's released. I'd love her to release a singer/songwriter esque album with quirky lyrics and songs that showcase her voice....along the lines of Ur So Gay, and her pre-OOTB material. That is the stuff she shines on, stuff that is handcrafted for her voice and nobody else's. That's the kind of stuff she could really stand out with.

I don't even know how to put it without being rude. I just think she's safe, average and normal.

Please, you know really well I wasn't even talking about the break between UAPG and now (as if she was drowning in #1s during this break )
The only years she took a break was in 2008 and 2013, and she still has 13 #1. Katy has NINE #1 from only 3 albums (the majority from 2). How is that even compared to what Rihanna is doing, I mean, how can you say she has had the same amount of #1s in the first 3 albums? Rihanna got her 9th #1 by the time TTT was released.
What kind of self drag

But Rihanna also had underperformances in her early eras (We Ride, Break It Off, Hate That I Love You, Hard). She even had underperformances during the Loud era which was arguably her peak. Those underperformances didn't mean she was declining
Off-topic anyway though.

Why is there MULTIPLE Kelly Clarkson stans in this thread saying things like this...? Clearly, it doesn't bother you.

The same with Rihanna. Since when was reggae or rock a 'regular pop formula'? Your point is flawed.
|
they all usually stick to basic pop song structures even if the beats are somewhat different because that's what every pop star except MAYBE lady gaga usually does. people get on katy for doing that but that's what every pop star's music is. they're pop girls, not pink floyd. they usually stick to a verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus format and make mostly songs that are 2-5 minutes long with catchy choruses. they all stray from this /sometimes/ but the vast majority of the time they don't. i think almost all pop stars are usually basic and i don't get why people come at katy as if most pop music isn't like that.
and dark horse is influenced by trap, but its roots are still in pop, like rihanna, christina, and every other pop girl's songs.
