I think digital sales only speak for predominately pop artists...or artists with a large pop fanbase.

No, it's pathetic to think otherwise. It was top 20 because of the digital sales of the album release week and that's why it's not a legitimate hit and you know it.

I don't understand how that makes it illegitimate. To me, that makes it even MORE legitimate than just being popular on radio. Downloads are the true measure of what people want to hear. Radio simply wasn't expecting the song to jump from the 40s to the 10s on the iTunes chart. I bet you wish "4 Minutes" was a #1 hit, and IMO that's only radio's fault, because it made #1 on iTunes for days.

And before you say anything about it reaching the top ten on iTunes, that was because the album was released and fans were buying it again. Not to mention, every song moves up drastically when the album comes out.

Not true, there was no download date or anything . We don't buy songs more than once. I don't see why it's so hard to accept the fact that people LOVED the song You guys know it. It's amazing, and got the downloads it deserved, if only for a week.

Yes it's true. Whenever the album is completely released to iTunes, either the single and album version are charting, but, because IDJ saw that "Feedback" was getting no REAL response, they removed the single version in place of the album version, because they knew people would then be forced to buy the album version, THEREFORE, it could look successful.
Stop denying, please.

What? How does the switching of the single-vs.-album versions correlate? Are you trying to tell me that the fans buying the album made the song move up on the chart simultaneously? Because that doesn't make sense.
What I'm wondering is...

"4 Minutes" sold over 2 million digital copies. It was a huge radio hit, but it's not like it went #1 with 80m+ audience impressions or anything.
Really, you could only think of "4 Minutes"? When that's proof of a legitimate hit. You had people dying for it to leak. Breaking radio records when it was released, spending weeks at #1 on the digital chart? "Feedback" did what? Barely did good on radio, IDJ being cheap with the payola, and god forbid do we bring up it's total digital sales against "4 Minutes".

what are you talking about? It wasn't an iTunes hit to begin with. It just got bumped because of the album release for one week. lol. Madonna's "Give It 2 Me" peaked at #57 because of the same kind of bump and i don't consider that as a legitimate charting either.

Basically, the single version was STALLING. It couldn't even past the top 30, I believe? So they removed it. BECAUSE album versions of songs usually rise up when the album gets released on iTunes they then just allowed the album version to chart because they knew, based on the MILLIONS of other examples, that album version songs move up.
Yes, some fans will buy the track again. And other people who were interested might buy the song. Don't act retarded as if you don't know what I'm talking about. This happens every Tuesday when an album comes out.

What are you talking about now? I'm not comparing them. I'm just proving that downloads are a better measure of success than radio. You saying FB wasn't a success on radio doesn't faze me, because radio doesn't even play good music. It's all about iTunes now. Where "4M" was numero uno for a LONG time.
BTW, like I said... although people were not expecting Janet to leak a single, it got an uproarious response online. It became the most successful online leak in history.

Also why are we talking about this?
I'm excited for after the tour. Never thought I would say something like that.

EXACTLY. Thank you! These peeps just don't want to give Jan her dues! Whether it was because of the (not hugely popular) album release or not, most songs don't go TOP TWENTY from being top sixty when the album is released. It was an interesting situation.

You're right, Brandy only had one of the most successful songs of the 1990s.
