I reconsidered before you posted because I know people do that to J all the time. Re-read my comment.

I don't think it's the bitterness..but probably because some of the things you say apply to Monica tenfold..not being shady or anything.

Edit: People say she should bow out, but that's really only because she's 42. In this day and age, someone who sells anywhere close to 200K first week should not retire. Ashlee Simpson, Raven-Symoné, Solange... now those are different stories. But Janet is keeping the Jackson legacy ALIVE. She's the only one who can still put on an incredible performance. Aside from that, the sales of her album, while not impressive, are certainly not terrible. The album has re-entered Billboard (not Hot 200, but a few other charts) so I'm thinking it will go Gold eventually. Anyone who can still do Gold here should keep going.
|
Well she's Janet. 200k is low for her, but still good enough. Next album, if done incorrectly again, will be along the lines of Ashlee, Raven, etc.

I could careless if it applies to Monica or not, I don't go around begging people to support Monica or anybody I like. As long as they put out good music to me, everybody else opinions is IRRELEVANT.
Eli, thats cool and dandy but Janet is an icon who should bow out at least for 2 years and then try a comeback. Why keep putting out new music and failing each time? It don't make sense obviously she needs to be missed in order to sell.

^It will still sell over 100K. I think Discipline's sales are just her die-hard fans, i.e. the stans on her official website who insist that she's never put a foot wrong and it's everybody else's fault. Some actually claim that she's flopping because she's black
So I think she has a surefire 150K+ opening week. But I don't want that. I don't WANT her to do it incorrectly. Time for a f***kin masterpiece.

I didn't know you meant it that way. I thought you meant she should retire forever . I agree with you--she should pop out a baby or two after the tour (marry JD if she wants), become inspired and write something amazing.
Her intro to 20 Y.O. was along the lines of, "There's something to be said for not saying something." Well, hun, you haven't said anything at all for the past seven years. Time to make a STATEMENT.

Oh I feel you completely. I was just saying that's probably why they throw Monica in your face, assuming that you would care.

lol. Janet is incapable of getting a legitimate top 40 hit either, therefore; she's done.

That's what I mean. 200k was her hardcore fans. That's why she did that much.

??? Feedback was a top 20 bitch. Is it illegitimate just because of who she is? That is pathetic.
Not to mention, it was the most "successful" song leak in Internet history. i.e. millions of people downloaded it illegally. So if it weren't for the stupid Internet she would've had a top ten at the least.

Legitimate - to show or declare to be legitimate or proper
"Feedback" spent a week in the top twenty and dropped. That was after it was failing to succeed on radio and keep a strong hold on iTunes. Therefore not a proper hit.

"Feedback" wasn't all that radio friendly to me anyway. It did as I thought it should've.

Legitimate means it is true, more or less. "Feedback" made the top 20 whether it was one week or ten. Radio supported it at the very beginning but it didn't take off until two months later. It was a very strange process but if it had all come together at once things would've been better for her.
BTW, I don't think radio is even close to being the measure of the success of a song. Radio plays what radio wants, not what people want.

No, it's pathetic to think otherwise. It was top 20 because of the digital sales of the album release week and that's why it's not a legitimate hit and you know it.
And I won't even bother with the last part. Nicole Scherzinger fans could use the same excuse.

The point of that being that I don't care if it "succeeded" on radio or not. If she had the best song in the history of man they wouldn't play it because Clear Channel hates her.

I'm not saying radio speaks the success of a song. Digital sales obviously do, but she suffered there as well.
And before you say anything about it reaching the top ten on iTunes, that was because the album was released and fans were buying it again. Not to mention, every song moves up drastically when the album comes out.
