Britney will forever be the queen of the VMAs nobody can take that away from her. As for Gaga, as much as I love her, we don't know if she'll be relevant 10 years from now.
The reason it's clearly Britney is because the kind of attention that Gaga seems to be seeking by going all out at the VMAs is the kind that Britney pioneered. And with Britney although attention was surely a goal for what she did, it felt a bit more natural to her. Maybe it's my generation but I can't remember any iconic VMA performances prior to Britney. Does anyone know of any? Madonna's vogue comes to mind, but that's about it.
Britney. When will Gaga have one of the most tragic performances (Gimme More) and one of the most controversial performances of all time? (Performance w/ Madonna)
I was going to do this but thanks! Let's throw in the 2008 VMAs where she opened the show and swept the major awards that night. Also the fact that she's the youngest recipient of the Video Vanguard Award
