The fact that they address love and growing up is an overly emphasized "problem" with her music. Love is not a limiting topic: it's universal and eternal. The fact that the character of her songs has changed hugely shows that the growth is there, so I don't see people tiring of it and I don't see her stagnating as an artist.

If you heard one Taylor song, you heard them all. And she isn't that great of a songwriter to begin with. Her appeal is that she's nice, innocent and writes all of her songs. But she has the same issue that people claim Adele has. Her fake "OMG!!! I can't believe I won this award" shtick is no better than Adele's somber songs or her famous black clothing. But that's neither here nor there.

Her album came out at the end of 2006 and there was a year-long gap between her first and second single on the album. Even in 2007, her debut moved 2,000,000 copies.

I've never seen Adele do when she wins an award. She is humble and real about it to me along with being a great vocalist and songwriter. That's a true artist to me.

So basically you're saying you only picked 2008 because she was very successful in 2006 & 2007?

I didn't set any type of "cutoff point" in my original post at all, actually. All I did was note that in the years 2008, 2009 and 2010, she was the most-played artist on the radio and the artist with the most album sales. In fact, I never even said she was the biggest popstar in the United States.

I know I'm not making this up. That wasn't in reply to your original post, it was commenting on this...

Basically. He knows that he couldn't have won that 2006 argument when she was a noncompeting entity with Justin, Rihanna, Kelly, Nelly, Madonna, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, Beyonce and arguably even Fergie all out stripping Taylor in terms of pop support, presence and even sales at that time period. Taylor on all fronts was not the force she was in her later eras and that's why the OP started this discussion at 2008. Fearless and Speak Now are really the only albums Taylor has had that have really dominated on a global/US scale and have really put down the competition.
Although it is worth noting that Adele's most recent album has outsold Taylor's most recent album here (as well as WW) so there is a case to be made that Adele is up there with Taylor in terms of sheer volume of album numbers. I wouldn't say Taylor is the only one experiencing this level of success.

Beyonce is not full on Pop either
Taylor Swift is the biggest STAR in America period.

I'd actually argue against "Speak Now" which only seems to be riding on the coattails of Fearless' success. The Fearless era was MASSIVE but even during that period, she was splitting the spotlight with Gaga and Beyonce. This era the spotlight hasn't even been checking for her.
You (not you Monroe, the other folks in here) can talk all you want about her consistency but if going from an album that sells 7 million to an album that sells 3 million just two years later is "consistent" I think artist like Britney, Beyonce, Mariah, Madonna, and even Pink should be placed ahead of Taylor in terms of "consistency".
If we wanna talk about popstars right now, at this very moment based off of their current eras and pop success, it's pretty obvious that Taylor wouldn't make the top 5 even if you're just limiting it to the USA.

okay if you are rounding off those digits then fearless would be 6m and speak now. 4m.... and selling 3 albums consecutively. to 4 million is consistency if britney pink and beyonce did that...count them in...but i dont think soo...
and speak now is a messive era too.....noot as good as fearless but still better than most pop girls...all the songs in the album placed on hot 100 .... thats pretty big i'd think!!

Taylor's sales are amazing in the U.S. It should be interesting to see how her next era goes because she did decline by 3 million. I don't expect her to have another era like Fearless.

Why is this a dumb-ass post. I didn't even say every fan of hers is a teen. Most of them are. I have her 2 albums. She has nice songs. But teens follow her.

Declined by 3 million? wtf? Where do you get this ********? And this era is far from over as well.
"Speak Now"Live CD will probably add 500k easily during holidays.
Fact of the matter is that she will be holding another record with "Speak Now" when next Hot100 chart is published.
Her radio play on pop this era has not been so impressive, but she makes up for it with her HUGE tour. She is always is the news. You can choose to ignore her, but her presence has been felt the whole year.

I get it from simple mathematics - Fearless sold around 6.5 million; Speak Now sold around 3.5 million. If you subtract the two, you will get around 3 million decrease between albums. Of course the era may not be done, but she won't grow much either.
