Lets be honest. Gaga and Beyonce would never release an album in the first quarter which is known historically for it's low sales periods. Adele is an exception rather than the rule. This number isn't ground breaking by any stretch of the imagination but it does tell us that she has more of a pull then most of the other "it girls" out right now like Katy, Ke$ha, Rihanna and the like who released in higher sales periods and couldn't match her. And Gaga is not known for her first week album sales either. She first week sales for TF and TFM were both quite low as well during the holiday rush period. As to Beyonce we all know who had higher first week sales when they both released their albums in the same sales period (2008).
Why are we giving Adele Britney/Madonna treatment? She's just this year "oh so mature and deep musical" act from the UK.
Umm no she wouldn't. Look at how low her sales were when she released TF and TFM back in 08' and 09'. There is a reason why she is releasing her new album in late May where sales are generally higher.
I don't think there's any difference between releasing in March or May
Tbh I think the sales are okay but for someone whose suppose to be the "queen of___" you would think it would be better.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, Hard Candy sold 100,000 copies in the United States upon its first day of release. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with over 280,000 copies sold. Hard Candy became Madonna's seventh number-one album. Released April 18, 2008.
Dead at the whining about 278,000. So many people would kill for those sales these days and most them won't even be relevant by their 7th album. It's not 2000 anymore, people.

She's not supposed to be "the Princess" cause she ***** the world right now. She is considered by many as a "Princess" cause she's been ******** the world for so many years now...
Look at how much time she has on the industry. 13 years is pretty longevity for a pop artist.

There is. The second quarter (Apr-June) market generally has higher sales then the first quarter (Jan-March) which reportedly has the lowest sales #'s of the entire year. The sales market builds up until the very end of the year which is why holiday sales periods ends up with the highest form of sales.

The album did what it could with all the promotion she's had, but I find it funny people are using the excuse "No Promotion" and she's been promoting it.... Not buying that! 278K is solid!

Which is a good thing,I just figured she would have done better since she did have a recent worldwide hit single pushing the album.
Ouch, very poor, poor sales, I expected way more from Britney Spears. She is a Queen, a Legend, a Godness... amirite? People were crying for her to return and now... she can't even crack 300k first week?
It seems her legacy is coming to an end. Even mother ****ing Adele from mother ****ing United Kingdom sold more than 350k first week.
