First of all the OP and the article linked implies they got the food for him, I don't think they should be taking anyone to BK that is arrested for any reason regardless of race.
As for the rest; the police can and will do what they feel is needed, even lie, to get someone to cooperate. As Doc says the FBI handled the confession but he was with the police prior to the FBI hand off and he was asking for food. If he was not fed he would be asking the FBI for food.
However like I said above, if it's true they actually took him to BK then there is no excuse for that, I have read several conflicting articles now so I don't know what the real deal is here.
