You lot are so melodramatic. She's selling small amounts in the US...but she is selling consistently and I suspect she will keep selling like that. As a pop aritist she's far above all the other gorls.
The bottom line is you all want her to sell more than Adele and it's not going to happen...Gaga never sold like that not even with The Fame and The Fame monster so you need to get over it. Take Adele out of the equation and gaga is far above everyone else. I swear some of gaga's fans that were hardcore passionate with love for her have turned that love into hating and relentless negativity just for a hobby or pure entertainment. Nothing is ever enough with gaga....You and I does far better than anyone expected going top 10...but lets ignore that and moan about the radio play. She goes far beyond what most artists do with the fashion films...and she's gets attacked for dragging "the single that everyone hates (apparently)" out...god forbid she wants to try and make You and I work. She performs You and I (her current single)...and she's attacked because she didn't do an album track...remind me of Rihanna's many TV performances of Skin or Katy's of Hummingbird heartbeat....and DO NOT get me started on the "why doesn't she look pretty thing"....if you are a gaga fan and you haven't got she doesn't 'play that game' by now you are a lost cause.

That's what a lot of people mean when they say the era has been managed personally. Fans get all butt-hurt and say it's a personal attack on Gaga, but then everyone will agree the switch between singles has been really abrupt.

Of course this era has been managed on a personal level.
I think Gaga might feel like she has so much to prove with this album; so, she's just changing rapidly and erratically. At the end of the day, it's so her choice at this point. I don't think Interscope is concerned about it at the moment because they expect the tour to bring in the real money (and it will).

Personally I've grown to love the unpredictability of this era. It feels like an pop artist doing whatever the hell they want and expressing themself on impulse. We haven't had that in a long time.
Most of Queens album were not loved by the critics when Freddie Mercury were alive and their images were very erratic for example.
Oh and for the record...can I remind you that The Fame sold 5.7m in 2009 and The Fame monster sold 5.8m in 2010....and I can see BTW going past 6m this year (in a mere 6 months) with all the international promo she has coming up (lots in the UK, Germany, the india trip etc). It's her highest and fastest selling album yet. What do you want from her? Would 10m in 3 months have been enough? 20m in 6 months? With The Fame monster sales aswell this is by far her fastest selling album year yet...she should do 7-8m albums by the end of the year.

Again, I think it's a cheap cop out to say her recent "under-performance" is because she's better than other artists musically.

Doesn't matter how you twist the succes of this era, all it comes down to is this:
This is GaGa's sophomore era (according to her TFM was only an extension of TF), and in being so it should have been her best selling era. Other sophomore eras include Britney's OIDIA, NSYNC's NSA, etc. These eras are usually much more commercially successful than the eras that preceded them (Britney's BOMT, and NSYNC - *NSYNC). It would be unfair to compare BTW's sales to those of OIDIA due to obvious market differences, but it would make sense to compare BTW's sales relative to those of TF/TFM (10 Million +) , just as one could compare OIDIA sales to those of BOMT.
There is no reason for why GaGa should have had such relative lackluster sales this era when she was in every magazine cover, every continent, every award show. She was Forbes #1 most powerful celebrity in 2011 and topped mosts lists in the beginning the year
Now before you little monsters get your paws up and telling me that she's sold "4Million WW, what else do you want!?, 1 Million opening week!", it should be clear to everyone that in determining the relative succes of the BTW era, her sales should not be compared to how her counterparts are doing (Katy with TD and Rihanna with Loud), but only to the succes of her previous album (TF/TFM). The reasoning behind this is that if we were to compare GaGa's sales to those of Rihanna and Katy, then it would only be logical to compare them to the sales of Adele.
BTW is struggling to reach 2 Million domestically and this is during a time where her FOURTH single is already slowing down. GaGa has failed to meet projections and this could be due to poor single choices, too radical a shift in sound, or perhaps even her overexposure (unlikely).
In the end BTW will probably end the year as the #2 best selling album WW so Interscope has probably few complaints, if any.... but, the discrepancy between the sales of BTW and TF/TFM can only be attributed to the poor choices GaGa and her team have made this era.
only true tea.

First of all this thread has lots of to celebrate Gaga's success. So melodramatic? Yes, but it equates to the celebratory gestures made about BTW. To think this is my first long-ass discussion about her sales.
Second, compared to Adele? Not much in these discussions, we only mentioned her from the VMA promo, that if she gets a hefty boost, we should see some from Gaga's too.
Although I must say that You and I did well entering the top 10, but what concerns me is the longevity so yes about the moaning about the radio updates. And personally I love You and I.
She didn't do an album track performance? I don't even know where this came up. And the pretty look was not brought up either.
And to be honest, you can't measure the fanatism of a person to another person, so if I'm a lost cause so are the deluded fans that are quick to defend her and not see the future of Ms. Germanotta.

I don't think about how many singles gaga has released...I think about how long the album has been out....and for an album that has been out for barely 4 months she is doing pretty dam well. If it wasn't for the Judas mess up...it wouldn't seem like she was rushing singles....we got Born this way in Feb, The edge in May and You and I in August/Sept. 3 months between each one seems fine.
Also someone remind me what The Fame monsters total sales were for the whole year were at the end of 2010...

Overreactions started again. I'm not even gonna comment on this. I think slimane12 already said all what I think.
I read a few days ago that Nicole said Gaga might go less "hard" next era according to Jeff. Did he DM her, becuase I can't find the tweet? (I'm not being rude, I'm really asking this).
If this is true, I think I would stop being a Gaga fan tbh along with the fans she earned this era (for the ones complainig, yes, she earned fans this era). If she pulls another TF for her next album I would see it as a big step backwards.
She might be more successful, but at what cost? Making ****** tracks such as I like it rough, BDR, Money Honey, Eh Eh, TF (song). So if artists and fans really prefer albums like TF and TD and songs like Party Rock Anthem instead of solid pop albums like BTW and solid songs like TEOG, well the music industry is suffering a serious decadence.

There's a different between being engaging and unpredictable and being rushed and disorganized.
This era was the latter.

I'm not ignoring you at all.
I don't have the answer to your question; therefore, I did not reply.
As for you quoting my lion king gif + laugh frenzy.
It was more for the Xtina comment than anything.

In your opinion. Where does all this negativity get us all though...seriously? Wouldn't some of you prefer to just enjoy the album for what it is and go with it? and if not...what is the point of you being here? This is a discussion form...relentless negativity isn't discussion. Personally I think You and I is her second best video after Bad romance, TEOG is one of the best songs she has ever written and I love how daring and interesting BTW as an album is...it's really brave and has a lot of substance...it's a pretty special and very ambitious album for a popstar of gaga's fame to put out and I defo think she pulled it off.
