Nicole has a point though. The producers are relatively unknown (DJ White Shadow IS unknown) and the gay lyrics weren't playing it safe at all. In literature, gay and lesbian themes are ALMOST ALWAYS described in metaphors and symbolism. Very rarely, if ever, are they as blunt as how Born This Way states them. It was risky in that sense. The lyrics are cheesy and the whole love yourself theme is generic and safe, but she made the song risky in it's own right. I'm tired of people disregarding the gay bit because that was indeed taking a risk.
Except for the fact that gaga has about 40 billion Gay,Lesbian, or transgender fans.

One can also argue that We R Who We R, Firework, F***in' Perfect, Raise Your Glass paved the way for Born This Way.
Those lyrics are not only cheesy but awful ... and still the song is 100X more risky than a cheesy song about wanting a hot guy in a club.
It's still NOT risky. The song is a perfect fit with radio. Everybody knew she would do something OTT for her first single--especially when it was called "Born This Way"--and if anything the song is less unique than people anticipated.

Atleast Gaga didn't bury it with metaphors like all the others do.

Maybe but that's not a very strong inference IMO. American society in general is fine with being yourself and indivduality, so in that sense those songs were fine. They certainly fall in line with our capitalist system. But if that individuality crosses lines of what is deemed acceptable (America is very conservative and usually split on homosexuality) - homosexuality, for instance - American society can be very quick to get hostile and exclusive.

SO basically everyone on earth is either Gay, Lesbian or Trans? What about the other 30+ billion fans? **** does she have fans outside this planet? QUEEN I tell ya!
