Nicole has a point though. The producers are relatively unknown (DJ White Shadow IS unknown) and the gay lyrics weren't playing it safe at all. In mainstream literature, gay and lesbian themes are ALMOST ALWAYS described in metaphors and symbolism. Very rarely, if ever, are they as blunt as how Born This Way states them. It was risky in that sense. The lyrics are cheesy and the whole love yourself theme is generic and safe, but she made the song risky in it's own right. I'm tired of people disregarding the gay bit because that was indeed taking a risk.
