The one issue I have is that the EP's are too expensive for what you get. They're about the price of the base game itself.

I know there's development costs etc. but they surely cannot be that high?

Apparently developing The Sims is super expensive, and they actually sell the base game at a loss, hoping that you'll buy DLC.
Which is probably why no one else is making a version of The Sims.

I remember when they commented on the fact The Sims 3 store had earned 20 million revenue that they were happy because they made "next to nothing" from base game sales.

The Sims 2 store was happened because EA wanted to earn back the money lost.

It's so weird, but makes sense. There's so much actually going on in The Sims that people don't realise.

The music playing in the trailer, is the theme music for Pets in The Sims 2 and 3 (3's version is slightly remixed).

Simgurudrake said that the only thing being hinted/released is the backyard stuff. Otherwise everything else is just speculation. And reworking the game already took them like what, two years? At this rate people will lose interest in the game very quickly. This could kill the franchise.

They have until Gamescom in Aug to announce EP3. If they didn't, then this could mean that we won't get any EP this year.

The only thing they seem happy to put out at the moment is stuff packs. So basically they're not releasing anything else right now because they don't know how to best package it in order to make a profit? They can hardly release big things like Pets and University as anything other than expansions, though. And it's not as if they're rushing through game packs (I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that the delay for Dine Out was genuinely due to development and not anything else).

SimGuruDrake confirmed on the official forums yesterday that there is still a team specific to EPs. So they must be pretty much done with a new expansion by now?

The Sims 2 sold 6 million on PC. The least out of all 4. A developer confirmed that The Sims 4 is doing better than 2

The Sims 2 on console is what made the Sims 2 a success. The Sims 1,3 & 4 outsold it.
(the Sims 4 sold 5 million as of Gamescon last year, it's safe to assume it's sold a million since then).

SimGuruDrake just runs the forums, I wouldn't take her word over the actual developers.

So I tried putting all the graphics on high but I still couldn't see the new lighting effects? Is it because I'm on a laptop/on laptop mode? What exactly do I need to have checked in order to see the new effects?

- Make sure everything is on the highest
- Untick laptop mode (laptop mode disables visual effects)
- Make sure "Uncompressed Sim Textures" is ticked so the lighting hits the Sims
