Everyone did not think that. I distinctly remember people thinking the song was too weird to be played on any format, including urban. It was divisive af. Nobody was really ****ing with the song but the label kept pushing it.

I knew from the very beginning that it wouldn't do anything.

Do I need to spell everything out? I think the album is great! I just think the voters look at the entire situation, and that screamed Try-hard to me. The song didn't even take off. I have always felt that because Kendrick covered so many topics, that Two albums could have been made. This was trying too hard to be a classic. (We could at least agree that if he named it the New Classic, that the critics would find it harder to have kind words to say). I went into the album with that vibe already and enjoyed it, but it will never equal the feeling and overall cohesiveness I felt on 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Kendrick will win, and the critics enjoyed the album, but I don't have it on the same pedestal as his Debut and 2014 Forest Hills Drive. And I was obsessed with the bassline alone for Swimming Pools for months.

Damn near all of us on atrl thought it would be a crossover hit

but it’s a radio-driven track that will be played throughout the country on every pop/hip-hop station you can think of because in the end, Kendrick is the biggest rapper in the game right now. From the weird monologue in the beginning to the somewhat radical outro, the song will be engrained into every regular listener’s mind for the next couple months.

A lot of reviews mentioned how radio-friendly it was and weirder songs have been hits on pop

The Grammys don't really give a **** about what you're talking about (pandering to pop). Lol if that was the case, they wouldn't have half of the nominees they have every year.

Apparently, Wet Dreamz and No Role Modelz are selling extremely well (J Cole just made top 40 this week with no Video or Pop airplay -- This might be another Work Out in 2016.) A Tale Of 2 Citiez could also do big things next year as it has been bubbling on Urban/Rhythmic radio since the album came out. His songs will be receiving ceritfications early in the new year as well.

In Sean's case, IDFWU, One Man Can Change the World, and several of his other songs will at least be certified Gold by January/Feb next year if not platinum.
