Last time the thread about the boy who refused to shake hands with the teacher got to 30 pages or so, and it honestly didn't sound to me like a big deal (I admit that is because I am an outsider though, but still. It's just a gesture and I can't conceive why either side gives it such importance).
On the other hand I can definitely understand why it would be awkward for children of opposite sexes to swim together. Young people are weird about these things.

Hundreds of thousands of people flock to beaches and swimming pools each year. They aren't segregated by gender. People need to stop sexualizing every last detail about gender, then we wouldn't have these problems.

Everything about that age is awkward. They're going through puberty, the last thing I wanted back then was for people to see me naked It's a cultural difference though, in North America we don't do this.

The girls were 7 and 9. No puberty at that age.

Local authorities offered the girls to wear burkinis and to ensure they changed with no boys present (which was anyway already the case). All the Swiss were trying to do is to keep the kids a part of their community, they're already outsider as muslims in Switzerland what if they don't even participate in the social activities ?

I mean, I am not arguing against it. Or for it. But personally I would've hated this requirement. Funnily enough Switzerland is a landlocked country nn
I don't think we can ask places like Switzerland and France to be fully accommodating (like say, Canada) because that's really hard. As long as there is no discrimination and nothing unusual is asked of the students I guess in theory it should be fine.

The Swiss literally compromised as much as possible. The parents didn't want to compromise at all. Now they don't have a choice. If they really are that conservative, Western Europe is the wrong place to live. Try Qatar.

Ppl defending a dumbass, opressive, sexist religious rule in the name of religious freedom.
State intervention is needed when it comes to such dumbass ideas.

A very disturbing decision.
Freedom >>> social values.

if they feel like not learning certain things because of their mythology, just like the case of Jehovah Witness skipping science classes a few pages back, they have the freedom to drop out of school.
(keep in mind this is their parents brainwashing their children with such divisive ideas based of sex, while that school is trying to be inclusive and not divide them based of their gender.)

Public schools aren't meant to accommodate to any religion. If they wanted special treatment, why not go to a school of your religion? Or go to an all girls school. Same with Jews or Christians. You cant go to a public school, which is free of religion, or for example as a Muslim go to a Catholic school and vice versa and expect special treatment. I dont see the big deal of Muslim girls swimming with boys anyway, especially if they are allowed to wear burkinis which covers your entire body.

Which in itself was a HUGE move from the public school who does not have to accommodate to any religion, as you said.
You said it perfectly

Right, waste money and incite further islamophobia, that's the best course of action. What's sexist about wanting to keep your daughter safe and comfortable when she's learning to swim? Whether she's 7 or 15 there is nothing to lose by letting them learn separately, only to gain

What will incite islamophobia ? The fact that the girl is the only one not swimming, or the fact that the girl is swimming with everyone else, participating in a social activity ?

We would be forced to abide by their customs if we were in a Muslim country so it only makes sense.

No discrimination in France and Switzerland, it's hilarious if even the legislators are islamophobic what can you expect of the common people

That's absurd. The parents' behaviour is more likely to incite islamophobia than the decision of the court.
Safe from who ? It was 2 elementary school students participating in a class activity. It's not like they were going to get raped in the process.
There is a lot to lose. For one further legitimizing sexism, just because it's in the name of religion.
