Racism is technically the feeling that your race is SUPERIOR to another race. Most people of color do not feel their race is superior, they feel there race was looked at as inferior and in turn hate white people for what was done to them.
That's why we say prejudice. You are only racist if you feel you are superior to another due to your race. Not just that you don't like them, just not to like them. No one is honestly saying i hate dark skin or i hate white skin, just to hate it, there is always meaning behind.
There is a difference between saying I hate black people because they are stupider, slower, weaker, and uglier.
Than saying I hate white people because they have everything, and they are the ones who oppressed my people.

I'm white so I've never experienced racism. Maybe "so" isn't the right word, but yeah.

Yeah when I moved to America I was made fun of a lot for being Polish. Kids are cruel.
Stop saying white people can't experience racism It is not the same as what black people went through but they CAN experience racism. What about that poor elderly man who was punched to death by the black dude that said "I'm punching the next white person who comes by". How is that not racist? If wearing a kimono is racist to some of you then so should be this.

As we all know, racism is a sensitive topic in many places, including ATRL. It can bring out deep emotions, such as hurt, anger, and confusion. But as humans, we feel better when we share, talk, communicate, and vent out. This thread is to share our experiences with racism, and to put aside are differences to understand each other and to help each other heal.
I'll start:
- On a trip to Miami, I was with some friends, and naturally, we were speaking German amongst ourselves. A few American teens nearby (they were also white, FYI) heard us speaking in our language. They, apparently, though we couldn't speak English, so they laughed and said that they wished us Germans would stop coming like droves to visit Florida, and that we should attack somewhere else. Of course, I understood them, and "CLOCKED" them. They were embarrassed, and I got satisfaction when I made them spend just a few of their coins on me, but proceeded to throw the McDonalds coffee they bought me in the trash.
-Another time was when I was with my family, and we were walking, and again, talking in German. This random person started shouting, "The Germans are coming! They Germans are coming!" To this day, I don't know if he was joking or actually racist.
Now share your stories.

I am German too and I use to be a constant victim of discrimination. In my history class at my old school, my 'friends' at the time wrote all over the WW2 posters discussing Nazi's and Adolf Hitler. What they wrote was my name next to all the Hilter pictures I laughed it off but It actually hurts. Like, Nazi's weren't a race, they were an organisation/army sent to do Hitler's dirty work. I shouldn't suffer the consequences that someone else did.

I have never in my life read something as ridiculous as "you can be racist against whites!!!1"
Me calling you a cracker wont cause you to get MURDERED on the streets for "looking suspicious."
Saying that you cant dance wont make you feel the same way as we do when we see that the world is systematically organized in a manner which favors white people.
There's a huge difference between racism and "reverse racism." One will stop a collection of races (POC) from getting jobs, having equal opportunities, living happy lives, equality, and recently even living (Trayvon Martin/Jordan Travis). The other will only hurt the receiver's feelings.
So stop trying to make this about YOU. I'm sick and tired of you guys coming into everything and making it about you. Nobody gives a **** if you got called a cracker. This is a thread for racism and discrimination, not "that time that someone of another race hurt my feelings."

People need to stop with the American-centric, broad statements. Sure, in an American context, a black person can't really be 'racist' against a white person. But America is not he only context, the world is far more complex than 'only white people can be racist'.
Try living in say China or Japan as a black/white person you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I've had boys pull off my scarf and call me a terrorist and a ****** when I lived in Norway. THat place is like 99% whites, I felt so out of place and different ever since I started school
I guess in England it's much better since there are more people of colour here, but some of the whites are really xenophobic and islamophobic it makes me sick

When I first moved to NC I wore a blue shirt my first day of High School, some guy sat next to me and flat out asked me ''So what gang are you apart of?Crips?''. I was new to the U.S. so I didn't get why he said it, but now that I know why I can't forget that moment.

The same place we went on a field trip to an indoor water park and then a large group of black kids came and I heard the consulers saying it would be hard to tell us apart since we all look the same not knowing I was right there.
I also remember this one girl thinking me and this other girl were just really sunburnt (she was 7) and whenever I was over my white friends houses whenever something went missing them assuming I stole it.
This was all around when I was 11. Honorable mention goes to people telling me I looked like I was from "adopted a kid africa" commercials in comparison to my sister because she is lighter than me. I'm at a new school and the racism this year alone

I'm really sorry, that sounds so awful!

So that person would feel that their own race may have less power, but are morally superior. It goes both ways.

My house was set on fire and someone left a note a few days later saying "Next time you'll burn, you [insert racial slur here]".
I had just turned 12. That was a traumatic year. First the fire, then my cousin died, then Aaliyah died and then 9/11. 2001 was not cute

OMG people stop making youreselvea look ridiculous
Racism is when you hate someone or youreself solely based on their race/ethnicity. That means EVERYONE its definition isnt "hating on a black person cause of their race".
Regardless, thankfully ive never had a racist experience.

Okay even though this appears to be turning into a "poor me I'm white and suffer too" thread, this year I moved to Japan and for the first time I experienced it in the most subtle of ways. Some primary school kids were pushing in the outer of their eyes to make them rounder and were laughing at me. It was just the weirdest thing.

I live in an African state so I haven't experienced many racist encounters but this one time at a party, there were many white guys and I was among the only black guy and this drunk jerk started calling me an ape and waving a banana in my face it was horrible
And once I liked this cute white guy and he seemed like he liked me too but he said that he'd really like me if I was white,I was so angry with both scenarios let's just say someone in both encounters ended up with a black eye and it wasn't me!

I think people assume racism is mostly discrimination against black people because of how much black people have been mistreated especially by white people for hundreds of years
I do think white people can have racists encounters but not as much as black people,I myself have never witnessed a white person being racially abused
